The HSEQ Lead will provide strategic leadership and operational management of all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) activities across the HW Martin Sizewell C Infrastructure Contract. Operating within a highly regulated nuclear construction environment, the role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, environmental stewardship and quality assurance are consistently achieved.
The HSEQ Lead will champion a proactive safety culture aligned with Sizewell C's Zero Harm philosophy, ensuring all employees, subcontractors and supply chain partners work safely, sustainably and in accordance with legislative, contractual and company requirements.
The role will work closely with operational teams, clients, regulators and stakeholders to drive continual improvement, support operational excellence and ensure compliance with all relevant nuclear, highways, construction and environmental standards.


Key responsibilities: 


Lead and promote a positive HSEQ and Zero Harm culture across the contract.
Act as the senior HSEQ advisor and key liaison with the Sizewell C client team.
Ensure compliance with company, client, legislative and contractual HSEQ requirements.
Support the delivery of Sizewell C Nuclear Safety Culture expectations.
Lead safety improvement, behavioural safety and workforce wellbeing initiatives.
Monitor HSEQ performance through inspections, audits, reviews and performance reporting.
Lead investigations into significant incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Manage environmental compliance, including waste, emissions, biodiversity, pollution prevention, sustainability and carbon reduction.
Manage and maintain the Integrated Management System and compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Lead internal, external and client audits and manage non-conformance and corrective-action processes.
Develop and deliver annual HSEQ assurance programmes and maintain legal compliance registers.
Lead, coach and develop HSEQ advisors, coordinators and support personnel.
Build strong relationships with operational management, regulators, contractors and supply-chain partners.


Essential Qualifications:


NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health & Safety qualification.
Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards.
Internal Auditor qualification.
ISEP Certificate in Sustainability & Environmental Management.
Practitioner level with the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (PISEP), or working towards.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Managers & Professionals CITB Health & Safety Test.


Desirable Experience and Qualifications


Experience on major infrastructure, nuclear, energy or other regulated projects would be advantageous, alongside experience of NEC contracts, multidisciplinary HSEQ teams and client assurance programmes.


Additional desirable qualifications include Lead Auditor, environmental or quality management qualifications, Chartered Environmentalist status, Temporary Works Awareness and Mental Health First Aider training.


Essential Experience & Skills


At least 5 years' HSEQ leadership experience and 5 years' construction experience.
Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, environmental and quality legislation.
Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems.
Strong understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
Experience leading audits, assurance reviews, incident investigations and root cause analysis.
Strong leadership, people-management and stakeholder-management skills.
Proven ability to influence operational teams and drive behavioural change.
Excellent communication, presentation, report-writing and analytical skills.
Competence in Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems.
Understanding of Nuclear Safety Culture principles.
