Temporary Works Design Lead (Sizewell C)
Civil Works Alliance
Sizewell C

We seek a Temporary Works Designer to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) as we help deliver Sizewell C-a 3.2-gigawatt power station set to supply low-carbon electricity to around 6 million homes for generations to come. This is your chance to be at the heart of a nationally significant infrastructure project, ensuring safe, innovative, and efficient design is delivered at every stage.

As a key member of our Engineering and Assurance team, you will be responsible for designing and coordinating a broad range of temporary works that support every part of our project-from earthworks and enabling, to marine, tunnelling, and main civils. You'll collaborate with internal teams, lead consultants, and subcontractors, making sure our standards for buildability, safety and value are consistently met.

In this role, you will:

•    Design and check temporary works, including site establishment, haul roads, working platforms, shoring solutions, foundations, falsework, scaffolding, and more
•    Ensure internal and subcontractor designs align with the temporary works brief, meet legal and quality requirements, and are delivered to schedule
•    Manage the production of detailed sketches, drawings and models
•    Carry out rigorous design checks and risk assessments, clearly communicating any residual risk
•    Prepare technical approval documents, including Approval in Principles (AIPs) for clients and stakeholders
•    Provide technical support to site and office-based teams, offering expertise in buildability and cost-effective solutions
•    Champion safe-by-design principles, ensuring health and safety risks are minimised at every stage
•    Coordinate with colleagues, supply chain, consultants, and specialist temporary works designers to ensure robust delivery across the project
•    Support the integration of digital processes and technology to drive innovation in design and delivery

Requirements:

•    A degree in civil or structural engineering, with professional qualification or working towards it
•    A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience, with at least 2 years in a dedicated design role
•    A valid CSCS card
•    Strong experience delivering site-based design services for major infrastructure projects
•    Solid knowledge of temporary works procedures (BS5975:2019), relevant codes and standards, and proprietary equipment
•    Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships across a diverse technical environment
•    Strong attention to detail, with a disciplined approach to quality and documentation
•    Working knowledge of AutoCAD and temporary works design software (such as Hilti profis, RMD Beam, GFSafe, CAD PWS, ROBOT)

For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
