The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. The SZC Project is a ~£20bn nuclear new build project in Suffolk which is currently seeking planning approval and financing from HMG and investors, with a view to start construction in 2023. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Independent Technical Assessor (ITA) to join our ITA Group, which is part of a wider Independent Nuclear Assurance function. The purpose of this team is to provide an independent review, assessment and challenge of safety case submissions and supporting evidence to ensure that the design of SZC meets the necessary nuclear safety standards.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly. If you’re able to travel to the office to collaborate with your team and stakeholders when required, you can be based anywhere in the UK. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

You’ll assist the ITA Group in providing assurance that the assurance model is operating effectively, giving advice on areas for improvement as the SZC project develops.

Additionally, you’ll provide an independent technical assessment barrier for higher risk design or safety case deliverables, presenting an independent view on project processes, practices and governance to external regulators and internal committees.

The role has nuclear safety as a priority, and involves strong relationship management at all levels both internally and externally.

The Skills

  • You’ll be an experienced technical specialist with a strong understanding of nuclear safety assessment principles, and their application in complex safety cases.
  • Due to the technical nature of the role, a degree or equivalent qualification in a science or engineering discipline would be strongly desirable.
  • If you don’t have nuclear experience, then good knowledge of another high hazard industry would be favourable, especially if you've worked in an oversight role and/ or experience in a project environment.
  • Experience of highly complex, technical projects is key, as is being a strong communicator with the ability to build good relationships and influence at all levels.

If the above sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
