Tractor Driver / Operator (Sizewell C)

Job Purpose:
To safely operate a tractor and its attachments to support materials transport, site logistics, site maintenance, groundworks, and general site operations in the construction of Sizewell C. To ensure efficient and reliable operations in support of the wider project, whilst observing all site safety, environmental, and compliance requirements.

About H. W. (Traffic Management) Ltd:
We provide data-led, traffic management services within a temporary environment. Put simply, we guide vehicles around roadworks in the safest, most efficient way possible whilst permanent improvements are made to the country’s highways.
We collate data to find ways of making the temporary traffic management strategies we deploy as safe, swift and synchronised as possible.
We also provide an emergency traffic management intervention on behalf of our clients in the event of a situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property or the environment. For example, in the event of widespread flooding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate tractors with various attachments (trailers, bowsers, hydraulic implements, tipping trailers, non-tipping trailers etc.) to move materials, equipment, water, or waste around the site.
• Towing and reversing trailers or attachments on- and off-road, ensuring secure coupling and appropriate load distribution.
• Conduct daily pre start inspections and safety checks on the tractor and attachments: fluid levels, tyres, lights, brakes, hydraulics, safety devices, coupling mechanisms. Report any defects or faults promptly.
• Perform routine maintenance / cleaning of tractor and attachments as required (e.g. greasing, cleaning, minor adjustments).
• Assist with site logistics: muck-away operations, site clearance, dust suppression (with bowsers), supporting haul routes, etc.
• Follow all site traffic management plans: site speed limits, haul roads, segregation of vehicles / pedestrians, banksman control, one way systems.
• Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and radiation / nuclear site-specific protocols (PPE, induction, toolbox talks, method statements, safe systems of work).
• Maintain accurate records: hours operated, loads moved, fuel usage, defects / maintenance, shift logs.
• Work in coordination with other plant operators, groundworkers, supervisors, surveyors etc., to ensure tasks are completed in line with project requirements.
• Be flexible with work hours (may include early starts, late finishes, weekend work) depending on project needs.
Qualifications & Certifications:
• Valid CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) or NPORS qualification for Tractor / Plant Driving (with the relevant attachments) required.
• C1 driving licence (or higher, depending on tractor / trailer combinations) may be required if the role involves use of public roads or large trailers.
• CSCS card (or equivalent) for site access.
• CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test passed (recent evidence).
• Additional desirable certifications: Banksman / Vehicle Marshalling, First Aid, Manual Handling, Environmental / Site Safety training.
Experience & Skills:
• Substantial experience (e.g. 2 3+ years) driving tractors / plant in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or similar large scale projects.
• Experience handling attachments and towing trailers / bowsers etc.
• Good understanding of and commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice in high risk and regulated environments (especially nuclear sites).
• Ability to work under supervision but also independently; good communication skills (for working with banksmen, supervisors etc.).
• Physical fitness and ability to carry out tasks that may involve manual work (attaching/detaching implements, cleaning, etc.).
• Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
• Assist with winter maintenance duties.
