Temporary Works Designer (Sizewell C)
Civil Works Alliance
Sizewell C

As part of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), we're playing a critical role in delivering the civils scope for Sizewell C - a 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station that will generate low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes. This is a landmark infrastructure project that will help secure the UK's clean energy future for the next 60 years.

Right now, we are looking for an experienced Temporary Works Designer to join our Marine and Tunnelling function. You'll play a central role in establishing and leading the design capability for temporary works, supporting both pre-construction and delivery phases.

What you'll be doing:

Leading the coordination and delivery of temporary works design across marine and tunnelling packages
Managing internal design resources and external framework suppliers to ensure timely and safe design delivery
Chairing design coordination meetings and applying robust project management principles to technical delivery
Ensuring compliance with BS5975:2019 and CDM Regulations throughout design stages
Developing and maintaining assurance frameworks for temporary works, with a focus on design quality and competency
Supporting commercial and procurement teams in defining scopes, evaluating suppliers, and managing contracts
Driving innovation and efficiency by identifying opportunities for standardised design solutions
Championing safety and embedding risk reduction across all stages of the temporary works lifecycle

What you'll need to succeed:

Demonstrable experience in temporary works design and implementation, ideally on major infrastructure projects
Chartered Engineer status in civil or structural engineering
Deep understanding of BS5975:2019, CDM Regulations, and risk management across client, designer, and contractor roles
Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers
Experience with tunnelling, marine structures, or deep excavations
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Confidence in assessing design competency and supporting professional development within the team
Practical knowledge of managing design assurance, onboarding processes, and compliance documentation

You'll be working in a collaborative environment that offers real flexibility - with based between Suffolk, and London.

If you're passionate about engineering excellence, committed to safety, and ready to help deliver a nationally significant project, I want to hear from you.

For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
