Opportunity for a Technical Requirements Manager (Sizewell C) working with Balfour Beatty on the Sizewell C Project,

The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Technical Requirements Manager to interpret and develop the Technical Requirements which are defined within the Programme Alliance Agreement into an agreed set of Technical Requirements for the purposes of delivery, assurance and handover.

The interpretation and development of the technical requirement for the programme will be undertaken in consultation with the Civil Works Programme (Client) to establish an agreed set of technical requirements which can be used to support the quality assurance and criteria for the CWA scope of works for both design and construction.

Main Duties :

The requirements of the Civil Works Alliance (Contractor Alliance made up for BB, LOR and Bouygues) will be defined within the Project Alliance Agreement and its referenced documents. A Requirements Management Plan will be developed which will establish how those requirements will be defined and discharged through the works. To develop the requirements management plan, it will be necessary for the Technical Requirements Manager to undertake requirements analysis to obtain a satisfactory understanding of the requirements defined within the PAA and to establish an agreed set of consistent (unambiguous, correct, complete, etc) requirements. Requirements analysis is conducted iteratively to define needs, goals and objectives in the context of the operational environments to determine functional requirements.
The development of the requirements will consider the complexity of the programme and the interdependencies between multiple stakeholders, during design and construction. To address this, formal requirements management processes will be established by the Technical Requirements Manager to capture, develop and cascade requirements.

This role requires collaborative working with Sizewell C, the Civil Works Programme, Engineering and technical teams and our supply chain and sub-contractors.  Previous experience working in requirements management is required. The role will involve producing and owning a Technical Requirements Plan which will define the process by which the requirements will be identified, analysed and managed at each stage of the project technical lifecycle, then implementing that plan.

  • Understand the Assurance Requirements of the highly regulated nuclear environment and incorporate into the definition of the works, programme and price.
  • Establish a detailed understanding of the requirements definition within the Programme Alliance Agreement
  • Undertake a programme of technical requirements analysis
  • Develop a Technical Requirements Plan and any associated requirements definition documentation
  • Update the Requirements Plan based on any project changes or as required through the project technical lifecycle stages
  • Develop and implement a strategy of communication of Technical Requirements to those that will be responsible for implementing those requirements.
  • Develop an integrated technical requirements management system
  • Work in accordance with the CWA Project Procedures.
  • Coordinate on an active basis with CWAs other departments requirement, assurance and certification teams
  • Coordinate on an active basis with CWAs design and engineering departments teams and relevant supply chain.
  • Undertake Internal Audits as required
  • Review and evaluate changes.
  • Understand Lessons learnt from HPC (First of a Kind) to transfer to SZC (Next of a Kind), working with the Sizewell C client and CWA to embed the learning.

Qualifications/Experience :

  • Qualified Engineer or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth
  • Experience in Nuclear requirements is desirable
  • Experienced in Technical Assurance and certification and preferably ISO 9001
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of the construction environment for safe and timely buildable designs
  • Experience of working with a major design consultancy and major contractor
  • Highly organised with good management and coordination skills

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
