Key Tasks and Accountabilities


• Provide and maintain setting out and dimensional control for site operations, ensuring works are constructed within specified tolerances.
• Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and accurate survey records.
• Verify that survey instruments and measuring equipment are suitable, calibrated, and properly recorded.
• Interpret drawings and specifications and apply them effectively on site.
• Support engineering control of construction activities, including technical queries, NCRs, and temporary works implementation.
• Ensure the workforce understands engineering and setting-out requirements relevant to the works being carried out.
• Assist with supervision and coordination of site activities, including labour, plant, materials, supervisors, and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and permit requirements at all times, and promote safe systems of work on site.
• Contribute to RAMS, toolbox talks, safety briefings, inspections, and weekly safety checks to support the safe execution of works.
• Maintain accurate as-built, survey, and setting-out records in line with agreed quality systems and inspection requirements.
• Support the implementation of temporary works designs and ensure works are carried out in line with approved procedures.
• Raise and manage permits as required, including permits to break ground and hot works.
• Attend daily briefings and coordination meetings, maintain a site diary, record progress, and report programme impacts to the Section Engineer, Sub-Agent, and Project Planner.
• Build strong working relationships across the engineering team, site workforce, supervisors, and subcontractors to support effective delivery.

Essential Requirements


• Degree, HNC or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in civil engineering works, including setting out.
• Experience in one or more of the following: earthworks, highways, drainage, structures, utilities, groundworks, or roadworks.
• Hold a CSCS card.
• Good working knowledge of survey equipment, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with site engineers, foremen, supervisors, subcontractors, and the wider site workforce.
• Knowledge and practical application of site engineering activities, supported by construction supervision skills.
• Demonstratable experience in highly regulated or safety-critical environments.
• Strong attention to accuracy, documentation, and audit readiness.

• SSSTS/SMSTS
• Experience in Groundworks, Earthworks, Roadworks & Structures 
• Nuclear Experience
• Experience with concrete structures would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Understanding of quality traceability, inspection regimes, permit systems, and compliance controls is desirable.
• Working towards professional membership of ICE or CIOB is desirable.
