The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Senior Engineer to manage the development of optimised construction solutions for the Earthworks and Enabling Works function during the ECI / pre-construction stages, by using knowledge and experience of design, construction methods, temporary works, planning/logistics and project management.

This requires collaborative working with the pre-construction and site teams and wider engineering and technical teams to develop construction methodology solutions.  Previous experience working in methods engineering, or construction project experience at Sub Agent / Site Agent level (or equivalent) is required.

The works will support the maturing of the V5.1 budget and programme and provide inputs to the consents
and permits required prior to commencement on site.

42 hours per week
Sizewell C site based

Main Duties:

  • Lead construction methodology solutions development in-line with design development that take cognisance of the site constraints, including legal constraints defined in the DCO.
  • Manage the development of construction sequencing following Method-led Construction principles
  • Support subject matter expertise from the wider methods engineering team
  • Support the integration of temporary works design with permanent works design through the application of sound engineering principles and construction project management
  • Develop the concept temporary works schemes required for a project and draft design briefs
  • Develop logistics strategies to support methodology and creation of logistics plans
  • Coordinate and collaborate with a variety of discipline specialists (both in-house capability and external supply chain) on several concurrent projects, either at bid or pre-construction stage, or during early stages of construction, adopting the Method-led Construction approach
  • Lead the development of cost and carbon estimates for the works
  • Create detailed schedules for the construction methodology options
  • Drive the adoption of modern methods of construction to improve productivity
  • Identify risks associated with the works, develop mitigations
  • Implement BIM and digital tools to enhance pre-construction and delivery
  • Record lessons learnt and capturing knowledge for the future
  • Understand Lessons learnt from HPC (First of a Kind) to transfer to SZC (Next of a Kind), working with the Sizewell C client and CWA to embed the learning.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
