Risk Manager (Sizewell C)

Location: London (hybrid working arrangements).

Employment type: Permanent full-time/ part-time.
Employment basis: The role is expected to be a full- time position however we are open to discussing a more flexible or part- time approach where possible.

Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.


We have a fantastic opportunity for a Risk Manager


Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.


The Role


As the Risk Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing risks throughout the project lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that risks to the project's schedule, costs, safety, and quality are mitigated effectively. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of Sizewell C, supporting both strategic and operational decision-making.


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Risk Identification & Assessment: Proactively identify risks associated with the project, assessing their likelihood and potential impact on project objectives.
  • Risk Mitigation Planning: Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, ensuring risk reduction plans are feasible and effective.
  • Risk Reporting: Maintain comprehensive risk registers and provide regular reports to senior management and stakeholders on risk status and changes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and external partners to manage risk across all project phases.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all risk management activities comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to continuously improve risk management processes and tools, aligning with best practices.
  • Crisis Management Support: Provide guidance and support in response to any emerging risks or crises during the project lifecycle.


Key Requirements:

 

  • Experience: Proven experience (5+ years) in risk management, ideally within large infrastructure projects, energy, or construction sectors.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field. Relevant risk management qualifications (e.g., IRM, PMI-RMP, or similar) are highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple risks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder management and the ability to convey complex risk issues to non-experts.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with risk management software and tools, including quantitative risk analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of risk management frameworks, processes, and industry standards, particularly in the context of nuclear or energy projects.
