Opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer working with Balfour Beatty on the Sizewell C Project,


The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will be part of the Engineering and Technical function within the Civil Work Program organisation, responsible for supporting the management of  the geotechnical risks on behalf of the contractor alliance. The Principal Geotechnical Engineer, will functionally report to the CWA Geotechnical Lead and work with the other SZC participants, including the client's design and technical teams.


Main Duties : 

 

  • Identify data gaps that present a risk to the design and construction methods and advise on the need for additional GI as necessary.
  • Take a primary  role in defining and agreeing the scope and specification of geotechnical trials and tests within the CWP.
  • Ensure that appropriate data is transmitted to the contractor's supply chain, as appropriate to their scope of work.
  • Review technical reports, designs and submissions, commenting on geotechnical aspects.
  • Support in the implementation of SZC Scheme-wide GRMS (Geotechnical Risk Management Strategy) including the development of appropriate and applicable Geotechnical Risk Registers and other geotechnical risk management procedures (e.g. Geotechnical Baseline Reports).
  • Assess the risks associated with proposed construction methods for geotechnical and ground engineering works, applying appropriate challenge to deliver optimal solutions for SZC.  
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations appropriate to the Contractor's scope of work.
  • Contribute to the preparation of Contractor designs, e.g. Temporary Works Design, providing specialist geotechnical input/ advice to designers and checking work as appropriate.


Qualifications/Experience : 

 

  • Degree and Professionally qualified.
  • Major Project Construction industry experience with wider experience of implementation and management of constructive geotechnics.
  • Experience working on deep foundations including diaphragm walls, ground anchors and piling. 
  • Experience of ground improvement techniques. 
  • Experience of large-scale dewatering schemes (desirable).
  • Experience of tunnelling (desirable).
  • Experience of executing and managing marine/offshore GI (desirable) 
  • Experience of execution of marine-based geotechnical engineering (desirable).
