The Logistics Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling all project logistics across the Civils Framework. The role will ensure the safe, efficient and compliant movement of people, plant, materials, deliveries, waste and site traffic across compounds, haul routes, laydown areas, work fronts and public highway interfaces.


The role will provide leadership for logistics planning, compound operations, site access controls, delivery booking systems, haul route management, abnormal delivery coordination and interface control between Kier, SZC, subcontractors, suppliers, statutory authorities, local communities and other project stakeholders.


The role will also include responsibility for stores management, including the receipt, storage, control, issue and reconciliation of materials, consumables, tools, PPE and project equipment, ensuring stock is available when required and managed in accordance with Kier procedures, project controls, quality requirements and audit standards.


Key Tasks and Accountabilities


SZC Civils Framework Logistics Planning and Coordination
• Develop, implement and maintain the project logistics strategy, logistics plans and associated procedures for the SZC Civil Framework areas.
• Plan and coordinate site access, egress, delivery routes, haul roads, compound arrangements, laydown areas, material storage zones and work-front logistics.
• Coordinate logistics requirements with construction, engineering, commercial, planning, procurement, supply chain, SZC and client-facing teams.
• Support short-term and look-ahead planning to ensure logistics constraints, site access requirements, delivery sequencing, haulage capacity and material availability are understood and managed.


Compounds, Haul Routes and Site Traffic Management
• Manage compound logistics, including access controls, traffic flows, pedestrian segregation, parking, welfare interfaces, materials laydown and storage arrangements.
• Coordinate haul route planning and management, ensuring routes are safe, controlled, clearly communicated and aligned with programme requirements and environmental commitments.
• Manage daily site logistics, including delivery booking systems, vehicle movements, traffic routing, holding areas and coordination of abnormal, high-risk or time-critical deliveries.
• Maintain effective controls for people, plant and vehicle interfaces, ensuring segregation, signage, banksman arrangements and safe systems of work are in place.


Delivery Booking, Supplier and Interface Controls
• Implement and manage delivery booking arrangements to control site traffic, reduce congestion, support programme certainty and minimise disruption to local communities and public highway users.
• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, security, traffic management teams, supervisors and client representatives to ensure deliveries are safe, timely and coordinated.
• Manage logistics interfaces with adjacent work areas, statutory undertakers, public highway operations, environmental constraints, community commitments and other SZC programme activities.
• Identify and resolve logistics clashes, access restrictions, congestion risks, delivery conflicts and site interface issues before they affect safety, productivity or programme delivery.


Stores and Materials Management
• Manage project stores, including receipt, inspection, storage, issue, tracking and reconciliation of materials, consumables, tools, PPE and equipment.
• Maintain accurate stock records and ensure minimum stock levels are agreed, monitored and replenished to support the Framework and wider programme requirements.
• Ensure materials are stored safely, securely and in accordance with manufacturer guidance, Kier procedures, environmental controls and project quality requirements.
• Support procurement and commercial teams with delivery records, goods received notes, stock audits, damage reports, plant and equipment registers and discrepancy resolution.


Health, Safety, Environmental and Compliance
• Implement Kier’s SHE requirements and ensure logistics activities are delivered safely, ethically and in line with project controls.
• Ensure logistics risk assessments, method statements, traffic management plans and lifting or delivery plans are briefed, followed and reviewed.
• Promote safe vehicle movements, people-plant segregation, environmental protection, dust and noise controls, waste reduction and responsible materials handling.
• Support incident reporting, investigations, inspections and close-out of actions relating to logistics, stores, compounds, haul routes and site traffic management.


Resource, Team and Supplier Management
• Lead and coordinate logistics operatives, stores personnel, traffic marshals, gate teams, delivery coordinators and relevant subcontractor resources.
• Set clear expectations, monitor performance and ensure team members are competent, briefed and working to agreed Kier and project standards.
• Work with suppliers and subcontractors to improve delivery reliability, reduce waiting times, manage turnaround performance and maintain efficient site operations.


Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain accurate logistics records, delivery schedules, vehicle movement logs, stores records, inventory reports, compound plans and audit trails.
• Report logistics performance, constraints, risks, stock issues, delivery compliance and improvement actions to the project leadership team.
• Contribute to project reviews, coordination meetings, logistics look-aheads, programme readiness reviews and continuous improvement activities.

Essential Requirements


• Proven experience in logistics management within construction, highways, infrastructure, nuclear, energy or another major project environment.
• Strong understanding of site logistics, traffic management, delivery planning, compound management, haul routes, laydown areas and materials movement.
• Experience managing delivery booking systems, vehicle movement controls, supplier coordination and logistics interfaces across live construction work fronts.
• Experience managing stores, stock control, goods inwards, goods issue, inventory records, stock audits and materials reconciliation.
• Ability to develop and implement logistics plans, compound plans, access controls, haul route arrangements and site movement procedures.
• Strong focus on health, safety, environmental compliance, community impact, public highway interfaces and people-plant segregation.
• Effective leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work with client teams, subcontractors, suppliers and operational delivery teams.
• Good organisational, planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a live, multi-interface project environment.
• Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and able to maintain accurate records, schedules, registers and logistics reports.
• Full UK driving licence.

• Experience managing logistics on highways, earthworks, structures, rail interface, nuclear-adjacent or other complex infrastructure projects.
• Experience coordinating logistics in rural, community-sensitive or public highway environments.

• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, security, traffic management teams, supervisors and client representatives to ensure deliveries are safe, timely and coordinated.
• Manage logistics interfaces with adjacent work areas, statutory undertakers, public highway operations, environmental constraints, community commitments and other SZC programme activities.
• Identify and resolve logistics clashes, access restrictions, congestion risks, delivery conflicts and site interface issues before they affect safety, productivity or programme delivery.
