I am thrilled to announce that the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Risk to lead our risk management services for the Sizewell C project, based in London. Sizewell C is a landmark project that will generate 3.2 gigawatts of low-carbon electricity, powering around 6 million homes and ensuring a sustainable energy future for at least 60 years.


Why This Role Is Pivotal:


In this senior position, you will develop and own the Risk Management Plan for the CWA, ensuring that all aspects of risk management are effectively implemented across the project. You will play a key role in supporting the PMO, managing a team of risk managers and analysts, and working closely with senior leaders, stakeholders, and external partners to drive risk-informed decision-making.


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead and deliver risk management services within the CWA, implementing effective risk management frameworks and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain compliance with governance, processes, and project objectives.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to junior risk personnel.
  • Facilitate the identification, assessment, and active management of risks to project delivery, including threats and opportunities.
  • Perform Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA) and Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA) to support robust forecasting and risk tracking.
  • Maintain and update the project's risk portfolio, ensuring effective internal reporting.
  • Produce submission data and documents for governance processes.
  • Develop and implement risk management plans and facilitate risk sessions.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and justify risk inputs and outputs in an open and transparent manner.


Qualifications : 

 

  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Experience working in major project environments, familiar with commercial, project management, estimating, and planning disciplines.
  • Proficiency in Excel and attention to detail in handling data sets.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to completing tasks.
  • Experience in delivering risk management plans and managing risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Competence in Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) techniques and tools (e.g., PRA, @Risk, Safran Risk) and web-based risk database tools (e.g., ARM, Xactium).
  • Degree in a relevant technical or management field, or equivalent experience in a risk delivery role for major capital/infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in risk management within major projects.
  • Ability to facilitate risk sessions and obtain updates from subject matter experts.
  • Full competence in applying QRA techniques and tools.
  • Familiarity with web-based risk database tools.


Desirable Attributes:

 

  • A degree in a related field or significant experience in risk management.
  • Professional qualifications or memberships related to risk management.
