Head of ESG (Sizewell C)


Location: London based with regular travel to Sizewell C, Suffolk and nationally as required. 

Reports To: Corporate Operations Directorate
Direct Reports: 5 (plus 8 indirect reports and 6 contractors)


Salary:

 

  • Competitive dependant on experience

The Opportunity


We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) to lead Sizewell C’s ESG strategies and implementation plans.


You will ensure the project’s sustainability commitments are met and exceed expectations, fostering trust with investors, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. This is a high-profile, strategic role with significant influence on national and international ESG policy and regulation.


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and implement Sizewell C’s ESG strategies to meet commitments to investors, the UK Government, and stakeholders.
  • Establish robust frameworks to ensure clear accountability for ESG deliverables across teams and supply chains.
  • Oversee the reporting of ESG performance internally to the Executive and Board, and externally to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with financing and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead proactive engagement in ESG, nuclear, and radiation policy discussions, shaping future regulations and raising awareness of Sizewell C’s initiatives.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including the UK Government, regulatory bodies, and community leaders, to drive sustainable outcomes.
  • Manage ESG budgets, resources, and risk, ensuring adherence to financial and operational goals.
     

What You’ll Bring


Essential Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Strong expertise in ESG, sustainability legislation, policy, and best practices.
  • Ability to influence and drive cultural change among senior leaders.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of presenting to Executive Boards and representing Sizewell C on national and international platforms.
  • Proven problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective team leadership, fostering accountability and high performance.


Desirable:

 

  • Knowledge of nuclear industry standards, environmental protection, and radiation safety best practices.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in ESG or environmental management within the construction or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong background in managing regulatory and investor commitments.
  • Extensive regulatory engagement experience within the UK.
     

Desirable:

 

  • Demonstrable leadership in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in communicating environmental and nuclear risk to public and political stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems conforming to ISO14001 standards.
