Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.


We are seeking an experienced Head of Programme Engineering to join the Technical Directorate (TD) at Sizewell C, driving excellence in design, engineering, and project delivery. You will oversee the replication and adjustment of designs, ensuring seamless integration and configuration across the Civils Programme.

The Role


As Head of Civil Engineering for the Sizewell C Project, you'll oversee large teams of engineers within the Technical Directorate, ensuring the project meets its technical and engineering objectives. 


Reporting to the Technical Director, you'll lead a multi-disciplinary team, providing guidance to achieve the project goals and setting the standard for behaviours. With responsibility for design values up to £300 million, you’ll drive the success of the Civils Programme, cultivating a culture of high-performance and team collaboration. This is an opportunity to lead a key area of one of the most complex engineering projects in the UK!


In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead engineering for Sizewell C’s replicated and site-specific civil designs.
  • Manage design work packages and implement the design replication strategy.
  • Mobilise engineering resources and specialists for design delivery.
  • Act as the main contact for technical issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and ensure on-time, quality design delivery.
  • Provide guidance on design responsibilities, processes, and interfaces.
  • Ensure design acceptance aligns with our Design Assurance Model and compliance.
  • Contribute to project strategy and senior leadership within the Civils Programme.

Qualifications & Skills:

 

  • A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering major infrastructure projects in complex, dynamic environments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering processes, technical coordination, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent skills in influencing, facilitating, and building effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Nuclear sector experience is an advantage.

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is nuclear site licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its ‘nuclear family’.


As a Sizewell C employee, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email, or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.


* Sizewell C Limited will be moving offices from 90 Whitfield Street to 25 Copthall Avenue. 
 

25 Copthall Avenue is a modern building just a short walk from Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations. Sizewell C will occupy the whole of the 4th floor. We are targeting a move in February 2025.
This role will be contractually based at 25 Copthall Avenue. However, depending on the date of the move there may be a period that you will be required to work temporarily from our existing office at 90 Whitfield Street
