Opportunity for a Commercial Manager (Sizewell C) working with Balfour Beatty on the Sizewell C Project,


What you'll be doing


The purpose of the role is: The implementation of the civils alliance delivery strategy;

 

  • Rigorously challenging all aspects of our cost base ensuring efficient and cost effective delivery;
  • Delivering internal and external customer satisfaction and maintaining unimpeachable professional standards.
  • Ensure development needs of line reports are met and to support with the development of the wider commercial function.
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
  • Support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities


Health Safety and Environmental

 

  • Provides advice to Project Director to commercial implications of health, safety, and environmental issues
  • Drives Zero Harm and other initiatives within the commercial team
  • Undertakes reviews and identifies issues with supply chain demonstration of competency documentation provided at time of tender
  • Creates a culture of openness and trust in reporting of Health and Safety matters
  • Carries out periodic Safety and Environmental Tours as required by the Project Construction Phase Plan


Resource Control

 

  • Ensures that sufficient resources are allocated to the Works Section and that each has an appropriate level of ability. Establishes opportunities for mentoring to facilitate this.
  • Identifies longer term strategic training to support individual development as required
  • Involvement in the recruitment and retention of staff; performance management of teams
  • Determine project commercial staff requirement and involvement in the recruitment and retention of staff, performance management of teams
  • Involvement with Universities to promote Balfour Beatty as a potential employer and to support sponsored students
  • Liaises with all parties to ensure task/project remains on plan Quality of service provision
  • Provides commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction
  • Manages the feedback of commercial data to Planning and Estimating


Estimating

 

  • Review tenders and cost data
  • Manage the preparation of Target Cost for a Project 


Planning

 

  • Co-ordinate the commercial team to ensure programme issues are identified and actioned
  • Manage the preparation and review of Earned Value Management


Project Management

 

  • Manage the preparation of the monthly operating statement and associated commercial reports
  • Report and explain the commercial progress to senior teams
  • Manage the feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales


Procurement

 

  • Establish client supply chain requirements and advise on alternative forms of contract and procurement arrangements
  • Formulation of management plans for resource procurement


Commercial Management

 

  • Undertake disputes resolution Application of legislation and liaison with legal experts
  • Preparation of Estimates and Tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications and preambles
  • Representation of the relevant financial and contractual interests in progress meetings or similar
  • Co-ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management and procurement techniques, estimating and surveying functions
  • Management and reporting of Commercial Risk and Opportunity
  • Management of disallowed cost
  • Business and Customer Awareness
  • An ability to see the bigger picture and prioritise business opportunities
  • Willing to take initiative to respond to market/customer requirements


Who we're looking for


Essential

 

  • In mobilising new contracts, documenting and implementing commercial systems and processes.
  • Working with related functions; finance, project controls and delivery to optimise ways of working.
  • Construction related preferably Construction Commercial Management/Quantity Surveying degree
  • Experienced in managing change and bringing about business improvement
  • Input into Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction
  • Experienced at establishing client supply chain requirements and advising on alternative forms of contract and procurement arrangements
  • Application of Construction and Contract law including the Health and Construction, Safety at Work, Environmental Health and Asylum and Immigration Acts
  • Preparation of Estimates and Tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications and preambles
  • Co-ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply


Desirable

 

  • Proven track record in managing and leading large teams
  • Demonstrable experience of innovation, in all fields (Health and Safety, Operational Delivery etc)
  • Experience in mentoring, and providing stretch and challenge for team members and ensuring clearly defined development plans are in place
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including completion of formal qualification (e.g., ILM)
  • Wide ranging independent judgement evident
  • Has achieved professional accreditation and undertakes extra-curricular activities to advance the profession (e.g., RICS, CMI)
