Join the Civil Works Alliance as a Carbon Manager

We are excited to announce an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Carbon Manager to join our team at the Civil Works Alliance (CWA). This critical role will help shape the future of energy in the UK by supporting the Sizewell C (SZC) project-a ground breaking initiative set to deliver 3.2 gigawatts of low-carbon electricity to power around 6 million homes, ensuring clean, reliable energy for at least 60 years.

As the Carbon Manager, you will report to the ESG Strategic Operations Lead and play a key role in delivering our carbon reduction commitments for Sizewell C. Your primary focus will be to develop and implement carbon reduction route maps, business cases, and contract mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement in carbon initiatives and enhancements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Alliance ESG Strategic Operations Lead and the client's carbon team to meet carbon commitments
  • Developing carbon route maps, reduction targets, and strategic plans
  • Creating and maintaining an opportunities register in line with PAS2080
  • Crafting and executing a supply chain engagement strategy focused on carbon
  • Designing, implementing, and tracking carbon training within the project team and supply chain
  • Integrating carbon management within various project functions such as procurement, commercial, plant management, and logistics
  • Managing project client carbon reporting and deliverables, including baselines, forecasts, and progress reports
  • Providing guidance on carbon assessments and impacts to project teams
  • Promoting and encouraging low-carbon innovations from the supply chain
  • Supporting the development of business cases for low-carbon enhancements and incentives

To thrive in this role, you should have a relevant BSc or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Carbon, Energy, or a similar field. An MSc in a related area is desirable. You must possess a strong understanding of carbon impact and mitigation issues on major infrastructure projects and be familiar with Life Cycle Assessment reporting and carbon reporting standards such as PAS 2080 (2023)

Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and organisational skills are essential, along with a collaborative approach and determination to see tasks through to completion.

For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
