Opportunity for a CSCS Shuttering Carpenter (Sizewell C) working with Ballycommon on the Sizewell C Project,
Main Duties:
- Construct and Dismantle Formwork: Build and strike timber, metal, or proprietary formwork systems (e.g., Doka, PERI, RMD) for concrete structures including walls, columns, slabs, beams, bases, and retaining walls.
- Interpret Drawings and Specifications: Read and work from construction drawings, formwork plans, and method statements to ensure accurate dimensions and positioning.
- Measure, Cut, and Assemble: Accurately measure, mark, cut, and assemble shuttering materials using hand and power tools to required specifications.
- Install Formwork to Tolerance: Ensure all formwork is plumb, level, square, and aligned to tight tolerances, using laser levels, spirit levels, and measuring tools.
- Work with Steel Fixers and Concrete Teams: Coordinate closely with other trades to allow for reinforcement installation and concrete pouring sequences.
- Use of Proprietary Systems: Erect and dismantle modular systems such as Doka, PERI, or RMD, ensuring correct assembly and bracing as per manufacturer guidelines.
- Support Pouring Operations: Prepare for concrete pours by securing formwork, applying release agents, and supporting vibration and finishing processes as needed.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all site safety procedures, including the use of PPE, safe handling of tools and materials, and participation in toolbox talks and pre-task briefings.
- Maintain Tools and Materials: Ensure tools are kept clean, safe, and in good working condition. Manage formwork materials to minimise waste.
- Assist with Site Tasks as Required: Support general construction and groundwork activities when not engaged in carpentry tasks.
Qualifications & Certifications:
- CSCS Card
- Minimum requirement: Blue Skilled Worker Card
- Must show NVQ Level 2 in Formwork, Carpentry, or Construction Operations
- Gold Advanced Craft Card (preferred for senior or lead shuttering carpenters)
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Formwork / Carpentry & Joinery / Construction Operations
- Level 2 is standard; Level 3 is desirable for supervisory or complex formwork roles
- CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test
- Must be passed within the last 2 years (Skilled Worker or Supervisor level depending on card)
- Right to Work in the UK
- Valid UK passport, birth certificate, or share code for non-UK nationals

Additional Certifications (role or site-dependent):
- Manual Handling Awareness
- Working at Height
- Abrasive Wheel (if using cutting tools or grinders)

- Experience with Proprietary Formwork Systems (e.g. Doka, PERI, RMD)
- Proven experience in constructing and dismantling formwork systems for reinforced concrete structures including walls, columns, slabs, bases, beams, lift shafts, retaining walls, and stair cores.
- Skilled in the use of traditional timber shuttering and proprietary systems such as Doka, PERI, RMD, and Acrow, with the ability to interpret manufacturer guidelines and adjust formwork for site conditions.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, structural plans, and section details, ensuring accurate dimensions, alignment, and tolerances.
- Experience working on major construction and infrastructure projects including civil engineering, commercial developments, energy plants, bridges, tunnels, and nuclear sites.
- Competent in measuring, cutting, assembling, and securing formwork using both hand and power tools, in line with construction specifications and site health & safety standards.
- Worked alongside steel fixers and concrete finishers, coordinating activities to allow for reinforcement placement and scheduled concrete pours.
- Knowledge of safe striking methods, ensuring minimal damage to formwork materials and concrete surfaces.
- Familiar with site safety protocols, including risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), exclusion zones, and correct PPE usage on live construction sites.
- Experience adapting to changing site conditions, solving on-the-spot challenges related to levels, groundworks, sequencing, and structural access.
- Background working across a range of sites including Sizewell C, HS2, RC frame developments, energy infrastructure, MOD facilities, and heavy civils projects.
