CSCS Concrete Finisher (Sizewell C)

Opportunity for a CSCS Concrete Finisher (Sizewell C) working with Ballycommon on the Sizewell C Project,
Main Duties:
- Surface Preparation: Set up and prepare work areas including installing forms, edges, and rebar or mesh reinforcement prior to pouring concrete.
- Concrete Placement: Pour, spread, and level concrete using a variety of hand and power tools including screeds, rakes, and floats.
- Finishing Surfaces: Smooth and finish freshly poured concrete to required surface texture and specification using trowels, floats, and power finishing equipment.
- Curing & Protection: Apply curing agents, surface retarders, or sealants to protect concrete and ensure proper setting.
- Repairs & Rework: Identify and repair surface imperfections, remove rough or defective spots, and apply surface treatments where necessary.
- Formwork Handling: Strip and clean formwork after concrete sets, ensuring safe handling and storage for reuse.
- Measuring & Leveling: Use laser levels, straightedges, and other measuring tools to ensure accurate levels, slopes, and tolerances are met.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all site safety protocols and wear required PPE while working in live construction environments.
- Tool Maintenance: Maintain and clean all finishing tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with groundworkers, site supervisors, and pump operators to coordinate pours and ensure smooth site operations.
Qualifications/Experience:
- CSCS Card - Valid and Relevant to Trade
- A Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card is preferred for experienced Concrete Finishers.
- Minimum requirement: Green Labourer Card, with the expectation to work under supervision.
- NVQ Level 2 in Concrete Finishing / Construction Operations (desirable but not always required)
- Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test
- Must have passed the CITB Operatives Test within the last 2 years to qualify for CSCS.
- Manual Handling & Working at Height Awareness (training often provided on site)
- Proof of Right to Work in the UK
- Passport, Birth Certificate, or Share Code for non-UK citizens.
Additional Tickets (advantageous):
- SSSTS / SMSTS - for those in supervisory roles
- CAT & Genny - if working near services
- Abrasive Wheel / Face Fit / Confined Space - if applicable to site conditions
- Proven experience in all aspects of concrete placement and finishing on construction sites, including slabs, walls, foundations, paving, roadways, and precast elements.
- Ability to interpret drawings, levels, and technical instructions, ensuring correct placement, thickness, and fall of concrete.
- Skilled in using hand and power tools, such as trowels, floats, screeds, power floats, and vibro screeds, to achieve a high-quality finish.
- Experience working with various types of concrete, including standard, high-strength, fibre-reinforced, and exposed aggregate mixes.
- Familiarity with concrete curing processes, including the application of curing compounds, protective coatings, and sealers.
- Previous work on commercial, industrial, civil, or infrastructure projects, such as highways, housing, rail, energy, or nuclear sites (e.g., Hinkley Point, Sizewell C) is highly advantageous.
- Comfortable working in live and safety-critical environments, adhering to strict site safety standards and protocols.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently, often under tight deadlines and varying weather conditions.
- Experience coordinating with pump operators, groundworkers, steel fixers, and supervisors to ensure seamless pour operations.
- Knowledge of surface repair techniques, patching, grinding, and reworking sections to meet tolerance and finish specifications.
