Opportunity for a CPCS Crane/Lift Supervisor (Sizewell C) working with Ballycommon on the Sizewell C Project,
Main Duties:
- Plan and Supervise Lifting Operations: Ensure all lifting activities are carried out safely and in accordance with the lift plan, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Implement Lift Plans: Liaise with the Appointed Person to understand the lift plan and communicate its contents clearly to all lifting team members.
- Oversee Lifting Team: Supervise crane operators, slinger/signallers, and other lifting operatives to ensure tasks are executed correctly, safely, and efficiently.
- Pre-Lift Briefings: Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings before lifting operations commence, ensuring the team understands their responsibilities and the task sequence.
- Coordinate Lifting Activities: Ensure all lifting operations are properly coordinated with other site activities and that any changes are communicated promptly to all relevant parties.
- Check Equipment and Documentation: Verify that all lifting equipment and accessories are certified, inspected, and fit for use before each lift.
- Maintain Clear Communication: Act as the main point of contact between the lifting team, site management, and subcontractors during lifting operations.
- Enforce Safety Standards: Ensure compliance with site safety procedures, lifting regulations (e.g. LOLER, PUWER), and that correct PPE is worn at all times.
- Monitor Weather and Ground Conditions: Assess site conditions including wind speed, ground stability, and visibility before and during lifts, halting work if unsafe.
- Complete Records and Reports: Maintain accurate records of lifts, inspections, incidents, and near-misses. Report any unsafe practices or incidents to site management.
- Support Site Logistics: Assist with crane positioning, exclusion zones, and coordination of material deliveries as required.
Qualifications & Certifications:
- CPCS A62 - Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor
- Must be in date and valid
- Demonstrates competence in supervising safe lifting operations in line with industry regulations
- CSCS Card
- Gold Supervisory Card preferred (usually issued with CPCS A62)
- Required for access to most construction sites
- CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test - Supervisory Level
- Must have been passed within the last 2 years to validate CPCS card
- Appointed Person (A61) (desirable)
- Not essential for Supervisor role, but beneficial for understanding full lift planning processes
- Right to Work in the UK
- Valid UK passport or birth certificate
- Or share code for non-UK nationals: https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-work
- First Aid at Work (preferred)
- Especially for supervisory roles on high-risk sites
Additional Certifications (role/site dependent):
- Slinger/Signaller (CPCS A40) - beneficial if assisting during operations
- Manual Handling

- Temporary Works Supervisor / Awareness
- Fire Marshal / Confined Space Awareness (if applicable to site)
- Proven experience supervising lifting operations on construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, or high-risk projects, ensuring all lifts are planned, coordinated, and executed safely.
- Strong understanding of lift plans, method statements, and risk assessments, with the ability to brief teams and enforce correct procedures on site.
- Experience working closely with Appointed Persons, crane operators, slinger/signallers, and site management to deliver complex lifting operations in accordance with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
- Familiar with supervising a variety of lifts including mobile, tower, crawler, and compact cranes, as well as lifts involving precast units, steel, formwork, M&E plant, and structural elements.
- Competent in conducting pre-lift briefings, managing exclusion zones, and monitoring site conditions such as wind speeds, load weights, and ground stability.
- Skilled in ensuring all lifting equipment and accessories are certified, visually checked, and correctly applied before use.
- Experienced in live and congested working environments, coordinating with multiple trades and adjusting lift sequencing where needed to maintain progress and safety.
- Proficient in record keeping, including lift logs, inspections, near miss reports, and incident escalation procedures.
- Background in working on major projects, such as nuclear, highways, energy, utilities, rail, or MOD contracts, where safety and compliance are critical.
- Ability to lead by example, mentor operatives, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism on site.
