Assistant Technical Manager - Ground Engineering (Sizewell C)

Main Responsibilities


Technical Support & Delivery
- Assist in managing technical aspects of projects from tender through execution.
- Support the coordination and review of design activities in line with ISO procedures, Eurocodes, and industry standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support to project teams to help meet programme, cost, quality, and safety targets.
- Contribute to the development of innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions.


Collaboration & Development
- Work closely with UK and international teams to promote VSL's technical capabilities.
- Participate in technical reviews and contribute to value engineering during tenders.
- Engage in knowledge-sharing initiatives and support the continuous improvement of technical processes.


Team Coordination & Learning
- Support the coordination of technical engineers and draftspersons in the UK.
- Collaborate with VSL International's Technical Centres and external partners.
- Take ownership of specific technical packages under the guidance of the Senior Technical Manager.


Technical Communication & Growth
- Assist in preparing technical documentation, case studies, and marketing content.
- Represent VSL in technical discussions with clients and stakeholders.
- Participate in training and development activities to prepare for a future Technical Manager role.


Education


- Degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
- Chartered status (MICE, MIStructE, or similar) or near chartered.


Experience


- 7-12 years of post-graduate experience in a contractor or consultancy environment.
- Exposure to technical coordination or leadership responsibilities is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Eurocodes, DMRB, CDM, and HSEQ standards.
- Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., Plaxis, Frew, Wallap) and structural software (e.g. SAFE, SAP2000) and standard office tools.
- Candidates with less experience will be considered for a Senior Engineer role.
