Assistant Quantity Surveyor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have to hold a full UK driving licence. To be considered, you will come from a Civil Engineering or Construction background. 
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for providing support to the senior members of the commercial team to assist the site and project quantity surveyors in the development and implementation of all pre and post-contract strategies, commercial functions and contract reporting.


Key Accountabilities to include but not limited to:


Cost Engineering

 

  • Measure, record & value work supervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures


Planning

 

  • Review and understand weekly and monthly works programmes
  • Awareness of different programme formats


Project Management

 

  • Understand progress on site via site walks and liaising with Project Manager
  • Determine how progress will impact cost
  • Influence project decision making with cost advice


Procurement

 

  • Collect information required to satisfy procurement requirements
  • Record and document information including registration of interest
  • Understand the steps/documentation required to procure within company guidelines including completing buying analysis
  • Responsible for the effective engagement and management of our supply chain


Commercial Management

 

  • Collation of cost and value information
  • Measurement of works
  • Assessment of subcontractor applications for payment
  • Working & understanding of  NEC 3
  • Assist in preparation of Cost reconciliation statements
  • Assist in preparing client valuations
  • Assist in preparing cash flow forecasts


Development, Recruitment and Retention

 

  • Maintain a Personal Development Plan
  • Working towards professional membership from the RICS, ICES or CIOB
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position
  • Comply with Company policies & procedures


Experience/Knowledge:

 

  • Proven level of experience in construction
  • Industry knowledge
  • Good knowledge of quantity surveying duties
  • Ability to work to very strict deadlines


Qualifications:

 

  • Graduate in Quantity Surveying


Skills:

 

  • IT literate
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Meticulous, organised, pro-active with positive attitude and willing to learn
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
