A Healthy Physics Monitor provides radiation monitoring services using a variety of equipment to help protect our people, the plant, the public and the surrounding environment from the adverse effects of ionising radiation and contamination. During this 24-month programme you will have the opportunity to work with a various teams of skilled professionals from across the business. The Health Physics monitor programme not only provides you with the safety knowledge to perform your role to the best of your ability but will also provide you wider context across the industry.


Where you’ll work: 

 

  • You’ll be working with Radiological Protection Teams at Hinkley Point C and across the power station fleet
  • Your time will be split between your EDF workplace and the National College for Nuclear, Cannington
  • You may be required to undertake secondments or work in other locations


What you’ll need to apply:

 

  • You’ll have a minimum of 3 GCSEs Grade 4 (Grade C) in Mathematics, English and a science or engineering subject. Functional Skills Level 2 will also be considered as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (Grade C). Other equivalent qualifications may be considered
  • You’ll be required to achieve appropriate security and medical clearances; these will be instigated on receiving a conditional offer of employment
  • Legally you must be a minimum age of 18 by the programme start date in September
  • A high level of attention to detail, quality and accuracy in recording and understanding measurements
  • You’ll need to be comfortable working with numbers and completing mental calculations as you’ll not always have access to a calculator


Qualifications you’ll gain on completion of your Apprenticeship:

 

  • Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard Nuclear Health Physics Monitor
  • GQA Health Physics theory certificate
  • IOSH Managing Safely Certificate
