Are you interested in joining our Chemistry Technician training programme to start your career in the chemical industry and help build a sustainable energy future for tomorrow?


The four-year Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Science) Degree Apprenticeship was developed with industry to give apprentices the scientific knowledge and technical skills to start or progress a career in the chemical industry.
An innovative blend of higher education with work-based learning, it rapidly develops apprentices into confident and capable laboratory professionals.
Apprentices are taught through tutor-supported online study, with one fully-funded residential week on campus each year at Manchester Metropolitan University. 


Where you’ll work: 

 

  • During the early careers programme you will have the opportunity to work across a number of EDF locations to provide a deeper level of 
  • understanding to enhance your knowledge, skills and experience
  • Your time will be split between your EDF work placements and study weeks at Manchester Metropolitan University
  • You may be asked to undertake placements or work in other locations within the Chemical departments


What you’ll need to apply: 

 

  • GCSE in English (Language or Literature) and Maths at grade 4/C, or equivalent qualifications
  • You’ll have a minimum of 104 UCAS points at A Level (grades BCC), with one being Chemistry or an equivalent scientific discipline
  • Other relevant qualifications to be considered, including an appropriate BTEC National Award (90+ credits), progression from an appropriate 
  • Level 3 apprenticeship programme, relevant experience including voluntary activities


Qualifications you’ll gain on completion of your Apprenticeship:

 

  • BSc (Hons) Chemical Science Degree
  • Level 6 Laboratory Scientist (Degree) apprenticeship standard
