Responsibilities


The Operations Supervisor plays a central role in coordinating communication between commercial and operational teams, ensuring smooth day to day running of the hire yard, spray shop, fleet, and workforce. This position focuses on people management, process improvement, compliance, and operational efficiency.


Team Leadership & People Management


•    Conduct regular 1:1 meetings to support development and performance.
•    Lead 6 month probation reviews and annual appraisals.
•    Manage sickness processes, including Return to Work forms.
•    Authorise holidays, appointments, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
•    Identify training needs and organise appropriate development.
•    Provide ongoing feedback from operatives and maintain strong team communication.


Operational Coordination


•    Maintain clear communication between commercial and operations teams.
•    Attend and contribute to Hire/Transport meetings every Tuesday and Friday.
•    Ensure the yard is kept clean, organised, and safe.
•    Oversee required materials for the hire yard and ensure availability.
•    Suggest suitable units for the Used Cabin page.


Boards, Records & Reporting


•    Update the Labour Board, Job Board, and Spray Shop Board.
•    Maintain fleet records and ensure quality standards are met.
•    Provide damage information for billing purposes.
•    Monitor and reduce non moving stock.
•    Track maintenance costings and time.
•    Support improvements to operational processes.


Health, Safety & Compliance


•    Lead or participate in Health & Safety meetings.
•    Ensure compliance with all H&S requirements.
•    Complete required documentation and follow up on actions.


Resource & Stock Management


•    Control consumable levels and storage (furniture, parts, etc.).
•    Manage paint stock and ordering for the spray shop.
•    Oversee forklift checks and fuel ordering.
•    Manage heating oil requirements for the spray shop.


Efficiency & Performance


•    Increase utilisation of assets and resources.
•    Support continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.
•    Ensure timely responses to emails and internal communication. 

 

Desirable but not Essential Qualifications


•    Forklift licence (FLT)
•    IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent H&S training
•    First Aid at Work
•    Driving licence


Skills & Experience Required


•    Experience in operations, logistics, yard management, or hire industry environments
•    Background in supervising teams in a hands‑on, fast‑paced setting
•    Familiarity with fleet management, workshop operations, or plant hire processes
•    Experience coordinating between commercial and operational departments
•    Strong organisational and communication skills.
•    Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
•    Confident in managing compliance and health & safety processes.
•    Comfortable working with multiple priorities and deadlines.
•    Problem solving mindset with a focus on efficiency and improvement.
