In this role, you'll support the waste management requirements of the HPC Project, ensuring compliance while delivering the best outcomes commercially and environmentally. You'll be backed by our Environment & Sustainability team and Waste Management Contractor, making a real impact on the project's success.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As the Waste & Resources Lead, you will be joining one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. This position, within the Hinkley Point C Project’s Site Environment Team, will involve working closely with our Construction Teams and Contract Partners to manage waste produced onsite as the project moves through construction into the installation and commissioning phases.

It will require routine engagement with Contract Partners, Project Managers, Construction Delivery colleagues and the Environment Agency. The successful candidate will be an established environmental or waste management professional with a proven track record of waste management within the construction, or other similar scale industrial sector.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary range associated with this role is circa £64,232. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you'll maintain in-depth knowledge of waste legislation and employ a technical, sustainable approach to large-scale construction waste management. You'll utilise recent and relevant knowledge from a construction or complex industrial environment to enhance waste management operations, ensuring successful delivery within large-scale project environments, meeting timelines and budget expectations.

You'll develop and implement strategies for dynamic, fast-paced project delivery, engaging positively with stakeholders, both internal and external, through strong communication and relationship-building skills. You'll tackle complex issues strategically, contributing to a cohesive 'one team' approach within the local supply chain vision.

You'll identify and evaluate new and innovative recovery or recycling routes for continuously evolving waste streams, chair Monthly Waste Management meetings with the contractors’ waste leads, liaise regularly with the Environment Agency, and actively support the Project’s sustainability agenda by identifying and implementing waste policies that support Net Zero and Circular Economy Working Groups.

Who You Are

You have strong knowledge of waste legislation and experience in large-scale construction or high-hazard industrial waste management. Your expertise in Technical Guidance WM3 and advanced waste classification is complemented by proven project management skills, including budget and work package oversight. You have a track record of successful delivery in complex project environments and are a strategic thinker with the ability to lead in fast-paced settings.

You are an excellent communicator with strong stakeholder engagement experience, skilled in resolving complex issues and fostering collaborative supply chain relationships. You are proficient in managing large datasets and producing environmental, contractual, and financial reports. You have degree-level education or equivalent technical experience, NEC3 Contract training and Project Management certification (PRINCE2/APM).

You are CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 qualified and a member of CIWM or IEMA, with knowledge of ADR Regulations and experience with waste permitting and DoWCoP.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
