In this role, your day-to-day tasks will include:
• Pre-Lift Checks: Inspecting lifting equipment (slings, shackles, hooks, etc.) for damage or defects before use, ensuring they are within their certified safe working load (SWL) and appropriate for the intended lift. Reporting any defects immediately.
• Load Assessment: Assessing the weight and centre of gravity of loads to be lifted, ensuring it is within the crane's capacity and that the correct lifting accessories are selected.
• Slinging Techniques: Selecting and applying appropriate slinging methods to ensure load stability during lifting, considering factors such as load shape, size, and material. Attaching the load securely and correctly to the lifting gear.
• Communication: Providing clear and concise signals to the crane operator using recognized hand signals or radio communication, directing the crane's movements safely and efficiently. Maintaining constant communication with the operator throughout the lifting operation.
• Safe Zones: Establishing and maintaining exclusion zones around lifting areas to protect personnel and property from falling loads or crane movements. Controlling access to the lifting zone.
• Teamwork: Working effectively as part of the lifting team, cooperating with the crane operator and other personnel involved in the lifting operation.
• Compliance: Adhering strictly to all relevant legislation, regulations (LOLER, PUWER, etc.), industry best practices (BS 7121), and company procedures related to lifting operations.
• Documentation: Completing necessary documentation, such as pre-lift checks, lift plans, and incident reports.
• Training & Competence: Maintaining appropriate training and certifications as required by legislation and company policy. Participating in refresher training as needed.
• Emergency Procedures: Understanding and following emergency procedures in the event of an incident or accident during lifting operations.

Skills and Experience:
• HS&E Operative test
• Certified Slinger Signaller qualification (e.g., CPCS, A40a).
• Thorough understanding of BS 7121 and LOLER.
• Proven experience in slinging various types of loads.
• Excellent communication and hand signalling skills.
• Ability to assess load weights and centres of gravity.
• Knowledge of different types of lifting equipment and their safe use.
• Strong awareness of health and safety regulations.
• Ability to pass a Safety critical medical. (Working at Height if required)
• Experience with specific types of cranes and lifting equipment.
• First aid training. (if required)
• Experience in a specific industry (e.g., construction, manufacturing).
Personal Attributes:
• Safety conscious and detail oriented.
• Ability to work under pressure and make sound judgments.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Physically fit and able to perform the demands of the role.
• Reliable and punctual.
Training and Development:
• Initial Slinger Signaller training and certification.
