Senior Commissioning Engineer

Job description

Ready to lead the commissioning activities that will help bring one of Europe’s most significant infrastructure projects to life? Do you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, leading technical teams, and making a lasting impact on the future of low-carbon energy? At EDF, Success is Personal – and this is your opportunity to shape your career while helping deliver a safer, sustainable future.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you'll play a key role in the safe and successful commissioning of critical plant systems at Hinkley Point C. Working at the forefront of commissioning readiness and delivery, you'll lead technical activities, support commissioning teams, and help ensure systems perform to the highest safety and quality standards.

You’ll join us on a salary starting of £67,000 per annum. This role is based at #HinkleyPointC. Currently, you'll typically spend Monday and Tuesday on site at #HinkleyPointC, Wednesday and Thursday at a dedicated HPC office, and Friday working from home. As the project progresses into the commissioning phase, the role will transition to being fully site-based at #HinkleyPointC.

You'll work alongside highly experienced engineering, commissioning and project teams, helping drive EDF’s journey towards An Electric Britain. From preparing commissioning documentation to leading commissioning activities and resolving technical challenges, you'll make a direct contribution to one of the UK's most ambitious nuclear projects while continuing to develop your own expertise and leadership capability.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Senior Commissioning Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative approach to delivering complex engineering projects safely and successfully. If you're motivated by commissioning excellence, technical leadership, and working in highly regulated environments, are you experienced in…?

Commissioning complex industrial, process, power generation, nuclear, or similarly regulated plant systems
Leading or supervising engineering, commissioning, contractor, or technical teams on major infrastructure or engineering projects
Working with EPE systems and commissioning programmes within complex engineering environments
Holding a degree qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant engineering discipline
Being Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or holding equivalent professional standing
Working within a regulated environment with a strong focus on safety, quality and compliance
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

What You’ll Be Doing

Developing commissioning documentation, test specifications, and system validation activities
Leading and supporting commissioning teams and contractors during commissioning preparation and execution
Supervising commissioning tests and ensuring activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project requirements
Analysing commissioning results, producing technical reports, and supporting the resolution of non-conformances
Collaborating with designers, contractors, engineering teams, and operational stakeholders to achieve commissioning milestones

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a salary starting of £67,000 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it's your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we're committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
