Opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor working with H&E Engineering on the Hinkley Point C Project,

 

H&E Engineering Limited is a Tier 1 contractor of Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, TA5 1UD.  We are a small, professional and motivated team.  If you feel that you have the right experience, qualifications and skills - we would love to hear from you.


Main Duties : 


Cost Management and Planning:

 

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for various stages of construction projects.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and track expenditures.
  • Perform cost analysis and identify cost-saving opportunities.


Contract Administration:

 

  • Managing change through CEMAR, ensuring adherence to contractual timescales.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
  • Evaluate and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Manage contractual relationships and ensure compliance with contract terms.


Project Management:

 

  • Monitor project progress and prepare detailed progress reports.
  • Conduct site visits to assess work progress and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Collaborate with project teams to address any issues that may arise during construction.
  • Oversee supply chain management by drafting and issuing NEC3 subcontracts, ensuring clear communication of contractual obligations and terms.


Risk Management:

 

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage projects to maximize opportunities and minimize risk.


Valuation and Payment:

 

  • Prepare and process interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Assess and certify payments to contractors and subcontractors.
  • Handle claims and disputes related to project costs and contracts.
  • Prepare internal contract valuations, ensuring accurate assessments of project costs and progress.


Cost Control and Reporting:

 

  • Ensure timely production of Monthly Applications for payment in accordance with the conditions of the contract.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of project costs and financial status.
  • Produce regular cost reports and forecasts for stakeholders.
  • Advise on procurement strategies and project financing.


Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a relevant degree level qualification in a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, AIQS) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing or commercial in a manufacturing and/or construction environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in quantity surveying or a related role.


Behavioural Skills

 

  • Demonstrably proactive, self-driven and assertive
  • Work under significant pressure and tight deadlines
  • High levels of influencing and negation skills
  • Problem solver with a strong analytical mindset
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Experience of working within multinational teams would be of benefit.
  • Native English speaker or IELTS 7 and above


Technical Skills

 

  • In-depth knowledge of contracts including NEC 3 and FIDIC, invoicing, and negotiation terms
  • Experience of highly regulated industries
  • Ability to analyse data from tables and figures and recognize connections
  • Experience in Nuclear would be of benefit
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficient in using quantity surveying software and tools.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good Knowledge in writing contracts and T&C’s
