Quality Control Lead

Job Responsibilities:

 Lead and supervise QC Inspectors across all technical disciplines.
 Ensure inspection activities are planned, resourced, and executed in line with project schedules and nuclear safety requirements.
 Provide technical guidance and mentorship to inspection staff.
 Ensure compliance with nuclear codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ONR, ASME, RCC-M, ISO 19443).
 Review and approve Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Control Procedures, and Method Statements.
 Monitor and report on quality performance, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
 Oversee inspections of installations, materials, and workmanship across all trades.
 Ensure accurate documentation of inspection results, NCRs, and quality records in line with nuclear traceability requirements.
 Liaise with project teams, subcontractors, client representatives, and regulatory bodies on quality matters.
 Participate in internal and external audits, client inspections, and regulatory reviews.
 Represent the QC function in project meetings and quality forums.
 Promote a nuclear safety and quality-first mindset across all teams.
 Identify opportunities for process improvement, training, and upskilling.
 Support implementation of quality initiatives and lessons learned.

 

Key Deliverables: 

 Maintain accurate and traceable records of inspections, tests, and quality checks.
 Ensure timely completion and submission of:
 Inspection reports
 Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
 Corrective Action Reports (CARs)
 Quality checklists
 Material certificates and traceability records
 Assign and oversee daily activities of QC Inspectors.
 Conduct performance reviews and competency assessments.
 Ensure inspectors are trained and certified for their respective disciplines.
 Ensure all quality activities comply with nuclear regulatory standards (e.g., ONR, ASME, RCC-M, ISO 19443).
 Support client audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
 Deliver responses and evidence for audit findings and corrective actions.
 Produce weekly/monthly quality performance reports, including:
 Inspection status
 NCR trends and analysis
 KPIs and metrics
 Lessons learned and improvement actions
 Lead investigations into quality issues and non-conformances

 

Qualifications

One of the following:

 CSWIP 3.1 or CSWIP 3.2 or PCN LII
 BTEC or ONC or NVQ level 2 minimum in Mechanical Engineering
 NVQ or SVQ Level 3
 NACE Level 2 minimum or ICORR Level 2

 

Experience

 Extensive experience in Quality Control within construction and/or nuclear sectors.
 Strong working knowledge of nuclear quality standards and regulatory requirements.
 ISO 9001 Auditing certification desirable.
 Experience managing multidisciplinary inspection teams on largescale infrastructure projects.
 Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
 Familiarity with digital QMS platforms and nuclear documentation systems.
 Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
 Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
 Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., nuclear new build, decommissioning, or defence).
 NEBOSH or IOSH - desirable for understanding health and safety in nuclear environments
