MAIN PURPOSE:
The Project NDT Technical Manager is responsible for providing technical expertise, guidance and oversight for all NDT activities performed by the company as part of the project. This role ensures compliance with industrial standards, regulatory requirements and company procedures while driving innovation and continuous improvement in NDT techniques and technologies.
The Project NDT Technical Manager will serve as the site based subject matter expert and provide technical support to internal teams, suppliers and external stakeholders.
This is a permanent position based onsite and the working hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Delivery
Accountable for the processes surrounding safety, quality and compliance of NDT.
Oversees the site NDT capability, ensuring the right balance of skills, training, development and succession planning are in place.
Monitors overall discipline resource requirements across NDT and supports recruitment/selection of staff. Act as the primary technical authority on site for all NDT methods, procedures and technologies.
Provide expert advice on NDT technique selection, inspection planning and defect evaluation.
Support the qualification, certification and competence assessment of NDT personal based at Site.
Provide technical guidance and support to all personnel including supporting the development of apprentices.
Innovation
Identifies & leads NDT capability improvements to support the business strategy.
Takes ownership for technique qualifications and development.
Ensures any changes in relevant regulations/standards are implemented in conjunction with the company TA.
Identifies and communicates best practice and feeds into company TA to support continuous improvement.
Advice
Identifies when work is outside of company technical competency.
Provides technical expertise/consultancy for NDT.
Conducts routine audits and ensures/verifies compliance of the NDT.
Provides technical guidance for the supervision and management of NDT.
Interfaces with customer technical authorities and third party technical representatives on any issues relating NDT.
Maintains links with relevant external/professional bodies in NDT, identifying and implementing best practice.
Qualifications
ISO 9712 (PCN or equivalent) Level 2 & 3 in at least three NDT techniques, including one sub-surface methods RT and/or UT (Category welds).
Where RT Level 2/3 is not held, RT Interpretation (Film) ISO 9712 (PCN or equivalent) Level 2 is required.
Awareness of and experience working under the requirements of BS EN ISO/IEC 17020.
Experience
Industrial experience in the energy industry, with a focus on new-build and fabrication projects.
Expertise in conventional NDT and Advanced NDT techniques, with a strong balance of practical execution and technical knowledge.
