Project Manager - CI & BOP

If so, join us as a Project Manager in our Balance of Plant (BOP)/Conventional Island (CI) Area, and you’ll be part of one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. 


The Opportunity… 


At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes. 


The HPC Balance of Plant (BOP) 3 Area is responsible for delivering the Sitewide Permanent Infrastructure, interfacing with all building projects and co-ordinating with the complex Site Operations activities. 


As a Project Manager focussed on delivery, you will manage an area, building, contract or package of work supporting delivery of the Permanent Site Infrastructure portfolio. 


This is an excellent opportunity to join a great multidiscipline team including Project and Assistant Project Managers, some new to the Nuclear Industry, and some established experts.

What you’ll be doing…

 

  • Define the work scope to be delivered within the contract or package of work and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme. 
  • Assist in securing the required resources to meet their project requirements, promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within their project team.
  • Ensure that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve risks and issues within the contact or package. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised, develop, and update the programme budget, and escalate any issues to the Senior Project Manager
  • Undertake all contract administration activities (with support of a Commercial Manager) including variations, claims, technical queries and instructions. 
  • Provide sufficient oversight of the Tier 1’s supply chain to ensure Nuclear Safety is maintained.
  • Resolution of issues/ NCR’s/ etc during the manufacturing process to ensure quality and schedule are maintained.
  • Management of all change to the contract including - scope definition, business justification and implementation of agreed change in line with associated governance. 
  • Maintain effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or PEP strategies within their contract or package of work.•   Drive the delivery of the package activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements. Monitor and manage the progress of the programme - track progress against milestones, deadlines, and budget. 
  • Apply the principles of Earned Value Management (EVM) and the principles of Continuous Improvement. 
  • Ensure that contract or package contractual requirements are fulfilled.


Who you are…

 

  • Degree and chartered status in construction, engineering, physics, or other relevant discipline.
  • Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PPQ or other recognised qualification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Project Management and working knowledge and management experience, with a track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment, whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
  • Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks, and have proven successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors in a regulated environment. Including NED or FIDIC contracts.  
  • Demonstrated success in managing and/or developing:
    • Engineering design, contract, and field execution strategies for project delivery.
    • Multi-discipline EPCM Projects including HVAC
    • Working knowledge and management experience of construction activities.
    • Procurement and management of complex contracts.
    • Control of costs, risk, schedule, and change.
    • Management of commercial claims and associated negotiation experience.
  • Able to demonstrate strong financial management, change management and facilitation skills.
  • And proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming, and risk/management tools.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations. 
  • Demonstrated experience of managing major projects from concept to handover, throughout the project lifecycle within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility. 
  • Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
