Salary: Starting from £63,000 per annum (depending on experience) 

 

Working Hours: 50 hours per week. 9 days across 2 weeks (Monday to Friday on week 1 & Monday to Thursday on week 2).

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Plant & Fleet Operations Manager at Hinkley Point C. 

As a Plant & Fleet Operations Manager, you will work alongside the Fleet Compliance Manager in the safe and efficient execution of on-site distribution operations.  

You will be leading a team of vehicle drivers and plant operators, managing a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.  

This is a key leadership position on Europe's largest construction project, requiring strong problem-solving skills, agility in decision-making, and the ability to exceed construction partner's expectations. Safety, compliance, and operational resilience are fundamental to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee a team of vehicle drivers and plant operators, ensuring daily tasks are assigned and executed safely. 
  • Ensure supervisors manage drivers and operators effectively and in accordance with safety protocols. 
  • Utilize and enforce electronic logistics reporting tools, ensuring accurate data collection and performance tracking. 
  • Identify and procure required plant and fleet equipment, justifying all procurement decisions. 
  • Provide direct line management to the Fleet Logistics Managers (Black Hat), ensuring they're monitored and briefed regularly, providing coaching when required. 
  • Ensure full compliance with HPC safety protocols, legal regulations, and Wilson James operating procedures. 
  • Develop and maintain KPI reporting procedures for plant and fleet logistics. 

 

 

What do we need from you: 

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications 

 

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Logistics Manager in a construction logistics environment, with experience of developing training plans and records 
  • Ability to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Method Statements 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools 
  • Strong knowledge of wheeled plant operations and vehicle regulations 
  • CITB HS&E Managers and Professionals certificate (MAPS) – must be obtained before the start date. 
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) – must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment  
  • Valid UK Driving Licence 
  • Experience in fleet and personnel management, including KPI reporting 
  • Proven experience in lifting plans, load security, and training development 

 

 

Desirable

  • Involvement with HR processes and procedures (including chairing formal meetings, such as disciplinaries, absence management, investigations and grievances) 
  • AP qualification (Lifting Plans and Schedules) is highly advantageous 
  • CSCS Black Card 
  • Level 6 or above NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management 
  • Plant Operator Qualification 

 

 

Site Specific Information: 

  • You must be able to provide a 3-year work/ unemployment/ education history required for the vetting process in line with HPC protocols. 
  • You must be able to obtain the HPC pass. 
  • The site is located remotely and a bus journey of 45 minutes each way is required to gain access.
