Physical Security Systems Lead
Are you an experienced Senior engineer in security systems? Are you looking for new opportunity, that is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference?
If so, join us as a Physical Security Systems Lead, and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF.
The Opportunity
Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. The project is delivered through an organisation that comprises multi-disciplinary teams.
We are recruiting a Senior Commissioning Engineer, specialised in Security systems, who will be responsible for ensuring the commissioning of all the security systems for HPC, including CCTV, access control and intrusion detection. As a lead of his team composed of Juniors and experienced engineers, he/she will be involved from the early beginning of the detailed design throughout the project lifecycle to ultimately handover the security systems to Operations. Key player of the project team, the individual brings his critical eye into the project to make sure we comply with all the requirements in security and possibly Cyber-security OT aspects.
As a senior engineer, you will also lead technically a team covering mainly security systems (CCTV and AACS) but also involved in few other systems in the field of Network, wireless communications and a specific automation system called “Level 3” systems for data historization and remote monitoring in a long-term activity. The role requires then to contribute technically in some aspects of the other systems supporting experts already in place.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a salary upwards of £60,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
As our next Technical Lead in Security Systems – Commissioning, you’ll be contributing to one of the dynamic I&C Commissioning Delivery teams with direct reporting to an I&C Commissioning Manager. As a key player in the commissioning team for permanent Security Systems, you'll be the deputy to the Commissioning Manager, providing crucial support for the delivery of various systems within your team. Your role will be complemented by a team of dedicated Commissioning Engineers focused on specific sub-areas.
This is more than a role; it's a chance to shape the future of commissioning in the realm of security system with other responsibilities including:

- Define commissioning strategy and review system delivery in line with the established strategy
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure consistency in commissioning strategies across the program
- Undertake commissioning activities, coordinate on-site with suppliers, and assess/forecast progress
For other daily responsibilities:

- Support the team in place by helping to schedule commissioning activities on site with the support of the commissioning manager
- Report technical progress on the different sub areas to the commissioning manager.
- Part of the duty is also to maintain and train people involved in the project. On technical aspect, the Senior Engineer shall accompany the progress of the team, teach people and ensure their right SQEP level to deliver on site.
- Provide an efficient division of the commissioning workload and systems into sub-systems
Who you are
With a degree in a relevant engineering discipline and extensive experience in the field, we are looking for you to adapt successfully to new environments, especially in large industries like nuclear. For this role, you should hold good knowledge of complex industry installation constraints, and experience in nuclear power stations would be a plus. If you have a track record in disciplines like security systems, networking, or I&C systems, along with a technical engineering background, you might be the enthusiastic and knowledgeable team player we're looking for!
- Relevant commissioning experience is appreciated.
- Detailed understanding of installation constraints in a complex new build environment, in particular for network, security and level 3 installation.
- Enthusiastic and keen on sharing knowledge to a junior team of engineers and technicians on site who will follow the work progress and will carry out commissioning activities.
- Understands the need for technical and administrative rigour in the nuclear industry.
- Capable of focussing and delivering as an individual or as part of a team.
