Are you looking for a new opportunity on a fast-paced project, where you can really make a difference?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Operational Development Engineer here at Hinkley Point C!

The Opportunity

We’re excited to offer an opportunity for an Operational Development Engineer to join the Operations Procedures Team at HPC. In this role, you’ll play a key part in preparing the site for the next generation of pressurised water reactors in the UK, setting the stage for world-class performance.

Depending on your experience, you'll be responsible for authoring, updating, and reviewing operational procedures and documents, ensuring alignment with safety case requirements, technical specifications, and nuclear site licence conditions. You'll collaborate with Main Control Room operators, using a full-scope simulator to validate procedures, and analyse design changes to assess their impact on key documents.

You'll be joining a dynamic and dedicated team, helping to shape the future of operations at HPC.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary starting from £55,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

Your expertise will help ensure our procedures meet the highest standards and comply with all relevant requirements. Here’s what you’ll be involved in:

  • Ensure operations procedures comply with safety case requirements, Technical Specifications, Design Changes, Human Factors, nuclear site licence conditions, and feedback from end users.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to resolve technical queries and assess the impact of Design Changes on operations documents.
  • Author, review, and update procedures across various areas, including Normal Operations, Fault Operations, Severe Accident Operations, or Technical Specifications, based on your expertise.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
