Opportunity for an Occupational Hygiene Technician working with Altrad on the Hinkley Point C Project,
Accountabilities:
The Occupational Hygiene Technician will be required to carry out the following activities:
- Keep abreast of relevant legislation, industry standards, and best practices in occupational hygiene to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance and support to site personnel regarding proper use of PPE, safe work practices, and ergonomic considerations to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to raise awareness of occupational health hazards and promote a culture of safety among site personnel.
- Support the Occupational Hygiene Manager as required to achieve the Occupational Hygiene Strategy.
- Participate in specific occupational hygiene related investigations and studies, as required by the HSSE manager and project.
- Continually develop technical expertise in occupational health and noise pollution, fume control whilst ensuring the best possible contribution to the overall technical performance of the HSSE department.
- Provide support to COSHH management arrangements as required by the Occupational Hygiene Manager and project.
- Work in close collaboration with the client occupational hygiene team.
- Support project teams to embed occupational hygiene related aspects into execution of works.
- Perform regular assessments of occupational health hazards present on the construction site, including but not limited to noise, dust, chemical exposures, and hand arm vibration.
- Conduct personal monitoring and sampling to assess levels of airborne contaminants, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of control measures in place to mitigate exposure to occupational hazards, such as ventilation systems, personal protective equipment (PPE), and engineering controls.
- Collaborate with site management and health and safety personnel to develop and implement strategies to minimise occupational health risks and promote a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of monitoring data, inspection reports, and any incidents or near misses related to occupational hygiene, ensuring documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
Qualifications/Experience :
- Previous experience in an occupational hygiene role is preferred, but not essential.
- Technical / Scientifical background / HSE professional
- Ideally, an existing member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (AFOH) and working towards the certificate of Operation Competence in Occupational Hygiene (CertOH). However, Full Training can be Provided to candidates.
- 5 years experience
- Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the nuclear or construction industry
- An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail.
- A Graduate with a STEM degree (desirable)
