Mechanical Construction SME
Are you ready to shape the future of low-carbon energy in the UK? If you’re passionate about welding and fabrication in highly regulated environments and thrive on solving complex technical challenges, this could be your next big move. Join us at Hinkley Point C and become a key player in one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Europe.
The Opportunity
At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
As a Mechanical Construction SME (known internally as Fabrication SME), you’ll be at the forefront of technical excellence, guiding the construction and installation of critical systems. Your expertise in welding, NDT, metallurgy, and mechanical assembly will ensure our standards remain world-class.
You’ll collaborate across engineering and design teams in the UK and France, helping to align fabrication processes with project goals. From reviewing technical documentation to supporting compliance and innovation, your role will be vital in delivering a safe, efficient, and high-quality build.
Pay, benefits and culture
In addition to a salary range of £79,000 - £82,000 depending on experience, we offer flexible benefits that support our employees’ physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. Examples include: a market-leading company pension scheme, a bonus plan, health cover, electric vehicle leasing, mental health support and employee discounts.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert for interpreting construction codes and guiding teams through complex fabrication challenges. You’ll oversee technical decisions, ensuring that all construction changes, non-conformances, and field modifications meet rigorous standards.
You’ll shape the future of welding and fabrication at HPC by developing strategies, reviewing surveillance outcomes, and providing expert advice on technical queries. Your insights will help maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement across the project.
Working closely with integration and project teams, you’ll help keep the programme on track—safely, on time, and to the highest quality. You’ll also mentor team members, fostering a culture of excellence and knowledge sharing.
Who You Are
You bring a deep understanding of construction and design codes, particularly RCC-M, and have a solid background in reviewing safety-critical documentation like Welding Books and NDT procedures. Your technical judgement is sound, and you’re confident making decisions that uphold quality and compliance.
You’re a natural collaborator, able to build strong relationships across teams and with external partners. Your communication skills—both written and verbal—are top-notch, and you’re comfortable using tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to support your work.
With experience in highly regulated industries, you understand the importance of quality assurance and have a keen eye for detail when applying welding codes and standards. You’re organised, proactive, and ready to make a real impact.
