As a MMA Welder you will work with a highly motivated construction team on Hinkley Power Station. Hinkley power station is a prestigious project and will require extensive knowledge and experience to produce one of the largest Nuclear Power Plants in the UK.
Do not apply unless you have in-date MMA Welding Certs to BS EN ISO 9606 in all positions and all material thicknesses.
All certs must be issued with CV.
Working an average of 48 hours a week, on a 10 days on / 4 days off working pattern
• Work on structural steel of varying grades and thicknesses with the MMA welding process following all site welding procedure specifications and site GA drawing weld reference numbers.
• Assemble components by welding and working to tolerance specification.
• Complete a range of weld types but in particular fillet welding and butt welding consisting of both full penetration and partial penetration joints, whilst ensure finished welds are of a good standard and follow visual welding standards to BS EN ISO 5817.
• Follow site Pre-heat and interpass requirements stated on WHL welding procedure specifications.
What are we looking for?
• Formal fabrication/craft apprenticeship, or NVQ Level 2 equivalent.
• CSCS Skills Card - Steel fabricator - Welder NVQ Level 2 or above.
• Welding Certs using the MMA welding process to BS EN ISO 9606-1 Standard covering all positions and all material thickness. (Approval from WHL Welding Manager).
• CCNSG - Safety Passport-This can be superseded with CSCS.
• IPAF - MEWP Licence - Advantage but not essential.
• City and Guilds - Fabrication & Welding.
• Experience of heavy fabrication, both structural steelwork and plate work.
• Welding experience on Nuclear, oil & Gas and offshore industry.
• All welding experience must be subject to Non-destructive testing.
• Arc air gouging.
• Visual welding Inspection that demonstrates good hand/eye coordination.
• Able to work to WHL quality procedures and Health & Safety requirements.
• Self-starter and able to take the initiative when not working under direct supervision.
• Ability to read and understand technical documents such as drawing and welding specifications.
• Ability to prioritise, meet targets and achieve deadlines.
• Willingness to learn and develop self and apprentices.
Successful applicants will be expected to adhere to governing site welding procedure specifications, and are expected to have a good knowledge of all aspects of welding operations such as application of preheat, control of interpass temperatures etc, and generally a good knowledge surrounding the MMA welding process.
