Lifting Equipment Technician

Wilson James

As a Lifting Equipment Technician, you will provide the engineering knowledge and examination support on the range of lifting equipment's and accessories used by the MEH Alliance.
You will be reporting to the Lifting Equipment Manager and your main responsibilities will perform maintenance of lifting equipment to ensure its technical integrity in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, legal requirements, and maintenance requirements.

 

 


Summary of Role: 
Reporting to the Lifting Equipment Manager you will provide the engineering knowledge and examination support on the range of lifting equipment’s and accessories used by the MEH Alliance.

 

 

Main Responsibilities: 
1. Inspection and maintenance of all lifting equipment and accessories for the MEHA construction activities.
2. Perform maintenance of lifting equipment to ensure its technical integrity in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, legal requirements, and maintenance requirements.
3. Provide records of inspections/maintenance and properly dispose and discard any failed lifting equipment/accessories in accordance with local processes and procedures.
4. Responsible for the lifting equipment register and the accurate upkeep to ensure all records are correct. 
5. Familiar with the installation, rigging and other relevant operational aspects, on all makes and models of lifting equipment on which maintenance and/or inspection is being carried out.
6. Identify faults found with the lifting equipment/accessories and ensure these are recorded and dealt accordingly.
7. Performs pre/post use inspection on all lifting equipment/accessories upon issue/receipt.
8. Manage and implement the Client and Contractor colour code system. 
9. Ensure a safe system of work is in place and followed for carrying out inspections.

3. Investigation reports on damaged/faults Lifting Equipment and Accessories
4. Lifting Equipment and Accessory forecasts
5. Lifting Equipment and Accessory utilisation reports


Other duties and responsibilities 
o Manage your reports in the day to day work patterns and ensure compliance with Wilson James HR/ IR procedures.
o Provide support in the recruitment of further positions.
o Work in accordance with Wilson James employment policies and MEHA site operational procedures.
o Compliance with Wilson James and HPC values:
o Comply with HPC/NNB/ MEHA and WJ procedures.
o Carry out any other reasonable request as required by your Reporting Manager


Health & Safety:
Health and Safety Responsibilities

• Ensure work is carried out in accordance with site/department procedures and training provided. 
• Comply with the WJ Health and Safety Policy, procedures, and protocols at all times
• Ensure you have received the required training prior to commencing works
• Ensure that you are working in accordance with the safe system of works, as briefed by your Line Manager
• Ensure that you are fit for work prior to reporting for duty each day
• Report any health and safety concerns to your line manager
• Once Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been issued ensure that you always keep it serviceable and report any defects to your line manager
• Always ensure while at work you are wearing the correct PPE
• Always set a good example

 

Required Skills and Experiences: 
1. Qualified and certified (SAFed 001 Cat 3 or LEEA General, Manual and Powered) with practical/theoretical knowledge to task carried out and local requirements to inspect lifting equipment/accessories.
2. Fully conversant with the equipment they are required to inspect and its hazards, including operation necessary for inspection activities.
3. Fully conversant with relevant information relating to different types of lifting equipment & accessories i.e. Markings, certificates, and thorough examination reports, etc.
4. Awareness of the relevant standards and regulations, and site-specific requirements and procedures. 
5. CITB Managers and Professionals H&S test.
6. Valid Passport or UK Driving License

Site Specific Information: 
• You must be able to provide a 5-year work history and required vetting process in line with HPC protocols.
• You must be able to obtain the HPC pass.
• The site is located remotely and a bus journey of 45 minutes each way is required to gain access.
• This role is based on site and is currently operating a 9-day fortnight rota (subject to change)

Shift pattern working 9 days across 2 weeks (Monday - Friday on week one then Monday - Thursday on week two)
