The Opportunity
 

We are currently looking to recruit the Lead Safety Advisor to work in conjunction with your respective HPC Programme Construction Delivery Leads and Project Managers, providing the highest standard of health and safety support, guidance and strategic direction for to drive continuous improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for you to join our team and contribute to one of the most exciting and challenging construction projects in the country, as we lead the rebirth of Nuclear in the UK. We are embarking on the safe construction of two EPR’s at HPC in Somerset, join us on this journey.


As a Lead Safety Advisor, you will work in collaboration with the health and safety teams establishing Health and Safety (H&S) risk management with high impact promotional programmes which enable and deliver compliance with the NNB HPC Safety Management System, contributing to our ambition of zero harm across the Hinkley Point C (HPC) Project. 


If successful you will operate by undertaking a range of planned advice, guidance and support activities which focus on establishing, promoting, maintaining and continually improving the HPC management arrangements to attain construction excellence; positively promoting and reinforcing Nuclear New Build (NNB) standards; monitoring/measuring the NNB and supply chain health and safety performance through the safety management system and routinely reporting programme and associated projects performance.

 
You will have to develop and maintain a ‘one-team’ working relationship with all key project stakeholders always providing clear communication to support surrounding departments and programme teams enabling others to attain construction excellence. 
 

The Person
 

  • Participate in creating, maintaining, and improving health and safety performance in the control of risks across all programme operations
  • Coordinate the work activities of the NNB safety advisors assigned to the MDT ensuring all MDT delivery teams receive the highest standard of health and safety support and guidance
  • Establish and maintain the required programme meetings, forums and engagements which plan, manage, monitor, coordinate and review health and safety in accordance with the HPC Safety Management System and CPP requirements
  • Produce relevant and appropriate health and safety performance reports ensuring all performance data is provided to the NNB Site Safety Manager in accordance with agreed timeframes, including the identification of trends and early warnings of possible issues, recommending appropriate action
  • Positively engage with and influence the programme multi-Disciplinary team on all health and safety issues relating to pre-construction and construction planning & project(s) evolution advising on constructability, maintainability, and operability matters
  • Establish and maintain programme and project-based health and safety risk profiles and undertake associated risk-based inspections and other assurance activities
  • Provide assurance on compliance with applicable legal duties including the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 to the HPC Programme Construction Delivery Lead and HPC Programme Manager
  • Carry out multiple H&S engagements include inspections, event investigations, and behavioural safety conversations with construction contractors on site
  • Be an effective and participative member of a team of health, safety, and environmental professionals.
     

The Skills
 

Essential 

 

  • NEBOSH HSE Diploma, NVQ level 6 Diploma or European equivalent
  • Significant HSE experience including running an HSE group within a large project environment
  • Proven track record of achieving excellent safety results on major construction, engineering or mechanical projects 
  • Management experience in successfully influencing and engaging senior business leaders and supporting 
  • Experience in creating and implementing large scale health and safety strategies across complex and high-risk operations 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop wide network and working relationships within EDF and the construction industry.
  • Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent or working towards it
  • Excellent knowledge of national and international HSE standards
  • Excellent knowledge of the CDM Regulations

  • Skilful in engaging others with technical issues and maintaining their interest and enthusiasm.
  • Skilful in distilling knowledge and building skills in others and the capacity to be pragmatic and practical in the way that technical issues are addressed
  • Good knowledge of large organisational, process plant and site, operations
  • Ability to establish a vision and develop/implement strategy, and to attain it.
