As our Health and Safety Manager, you will be dedicated to support the Mechanical Electrical Heating Alliance (MEHA) Logistics Team and their Health, Safety and Environmental department. You will be managing and monitoring the working practices of employees and contractors regarding health, safety, wellbeing, environmental and welfare. You will be responsible for supporting development of strategies and systems and providing advice and support to ensure Wilson James Logistics teams are working safely in line with the MEH Construction Phase Plans, processes and procedures, including current legislation and industry best practice. You will drive the well-being agenda for all colleagues. The post holder will be fully integrated with Wilson James HSE leadership team working collaboratively with senior leadership to underwrite Wilson James principal priority; a safe working environment.

 

 


Summary of Role: 
The post holder is responsible for managing Health and Safety for the Wilson James Logistics Team across all locations relating to the HPC project. This is includes the generation and periodic review of RAMs and Safety Systems of Work 
(SSOW). This includes the safety provision of all aspects of training. Additionally, drive the well-being agenda for all colleagues. The post holder will be fully integrated with Wilson James HSE leadership team working collaboratively with 
senior leadership to underwrite Wilson James principal priority; a safe working environment.
Additionally, working collaboratively with clients NNB and the MEH Alliance Health, Safety and Environmental departments.
This role’s primary responsibility will be developing strategies and procedures, delivering manager training, monitoring performance and the provision of advice and support to all the WJ Logistics teams at HPC to ensure they are working safely and in line with the NNB Construction Phase Safety Plan and the MEH Construction Safety Plan


Main Responsibilities: 
• Ownership of the HPC site safety platform (Insight) on behalf of Wilson James. Additionally, responsible for safety performance and reporting on the Notify safety software (Wilson James).
• Authority for all site risk assessments and SSOW, this includes the training and induction provision. 
• Ensure WJ Logistics internal safety audits to underwrite safety culture and reporting.
• Fully conversant with the WJ Logistics scope and the location of the activities.
• Ensure the individual Logistics RAMS are reviewed, updated and communicated in accordance with a published audit schedule. Auditing includes the safety provisions included in TbTs. 
• Monitor Point of Work Risk Assessment activity ensuring working practices are reflected in all safety assessments and/or amended as appropriate. This includes training of the management to empower all colleagues on safety management.
• Ensure the Health and Safety Compliance Standards of the HPC project are met. This includes timely collation of safety metrics and dashboard reporting for HPC.
• Engage collaboratively with the site integrated H&S team (external) and the WJ HSE Team (internal).
• Carry out all duties with full regard to all policies, plans and procedures relevant to site operations.
• Share and record best practices and lessons learnt experience and site issues to allow for continuous improvement.
• Authority for the WJ HPC well-being programme publish schedule of events and initiatives to underwrite colleague well-being, all metrics recorded. 
• Primary investigatory authority when unsafe practices are observed or safety incidents occur (including near-misses). Further, safety incident reporting and Lesson Learned author including updates to training and documentation.
• Carry out any other reasonable request as required by your Line Manager 
• Work in accordance with WJ and HPC Values


Essential Qualifications & Experiences: 
• Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, specific to construction industrylogistics activities.
• NEBOSH qualification - preferably general certificate or construction certificate.
• CITB H&S test pass certificate for Managers & Professionals 
• Demonstrate a strong construction or engineering background.
• Demonstrate experience and knowledge of safety in plant and vehicle operations.
• Demonstrate experience working in a multi-disciplined safety critical environment.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills, able to communicate at all levels.
• IT literate – familiar with all Microsoft office packages.
• An understanding of the principles of equality and diversity in relation to visitors’ and employee’s needs.
• Full UK Driving License.
• Commitment to Wilson James service for its client and customer base.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the core values.

• IOSH accreditation
• CSCS Card (professional card - white)
• HPC pass holder.
• Knowledge of HPC Site.
• SMSTS

 

 

Site Specific Information: 
• You must be able to provide a 5-year work history and required vetting process in line with HPC protocols.
• You must be able to obtain the HPC pass.
• The site is located remotely and a bus journey of 45 minutes each way is required to gain access.
• This role is based on site and is currently operating a 9-day fortnight rota (subject to change)
