Opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor working with Wilson James on the Hinkley Point C Project,


Summary of role 


Acting as dedicated H&S support to our client (MEH) you will also work collaboratively with the MEH Health, Safety and Environmental department. You will be supported internally by the Wilson James, HSW Team. 
This role’s primary responsibility will be supporting the development of processes and systems, monitoring performance and the provision of advice and support to ensure WJ Logistics teams are working safely in line with the MEH Construction 
Phase Plan, RAMS, DABS, HPC processes, procedures, including current legislation and I industry best practice. In addition, all WJ SOP’S, internal policies and protocols will need to be followed.


Main responsibilities 

 

  • Ensure the Health and Safety Compliance Standards of the HPC project are consistently met 
  • Play a key role in the site integrated H&S team (external) and the WJ HSW Team (internal) 
  • Give competent advice across a multi-functional / discipline project 
  • Carry out all duties with full regard to all policies, plans and procedures relevant to site operations 
  • Build a strong HSE relationships with other Tier 1 and Tier 2 H&S departments 
  • Monitor the working practices of employees and contractors regarding health, safety, wellbeing, 
  • environmental and welfare 
  • Carry out HSE inspections across the site in line with the MEH Assurance Schedule and WJ procedures 
  • Undertake such additional tasks as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post 
  • Share best practices and lessons learnt from their area of responsibility to allow for continuous 
  • improvement 
  • Proactively engage with MEH H&S team and site Safety Representatives 
  • Conduct audits of site activities and sub-contractor operations.
  • Record the findings of audit reports and inspections in line with the HSE Management system requirements 
  • and the Assurance Schedule 
  • Intervene when unsafe practices are observed, offer solutions to observations made 
  • Report accidents/incidents/near misses in line with the project requirements and our WJ Notify reporting 
  • system 
  • Ensure the Insight procedure for Observations is followed. 
  • Carry out any other reasonable request as required by your Line Manager


Required Skills & Qualifications 

 

  • Strong working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, specific to the construction industry 
  • NEBOSH qualification - preferably general certificate or construction certificate. 
  • Professional Membership – IOSH preferably (TechIOSH)Experience in compiling and reviewing RAMS specific to 
  • task 
  • Strong construction or engineering background. 
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplined safety critical environment. 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, able to communicate at all levels. 
  • IT literate – familiar with Microsoft packages. 
  • An understanding of the principles of equality and diversity in relation to visitors’ and employee’s needs. 
  • An interest in and commitment to the work of Wilson James for its clients


Experience and Qualifications 


Essential 

 

  • Previous H&S Experience 
  • CSCS Card (professional card - white) 
     

Desirable 

 

  • HPC pass holder 
  • Knowledge of HPC Site. 
  • Driving Licence 
  • SMSTS/SSSTS 
  • NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate
