The Opportunity


As our next Health and Safety Advisor, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to delivering top-tier advice and support to the HPC CDM Client and Principal Contractor management teams. In this role, you will collaborate assertively and supportively, engaging in a variety of safety program activities. You will provide daily technical advice and guidance on all project health and safety matters, conduct risk-based intelligent monitoring, and contribute significantly to EDF Energy’s zero-harm objective.


In this role, you will proactively engage in a variety of planned activities aimed at providing top-notch advice, guidance, and support. These efforts focus on establishing, promoting, and continuously improving the HPC CDM Client and Principal Contractor management arrangements. The role also involves actively promoting and reinforcing NNB Genco standards and monitoring the health and safety performance of both NNB and the supply chain through risk-based inspections and audits.


Pay, benefits and culture


In addition to offering a salary range of £62,000 - £72,000 depending on experience, we offer flexible benefits that support our employees’ physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. What you will be doing…


As our Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a crucial role in creating, maintaining, and enhancing workplace health and safety. You'll influence a multi-disciplinary team on health and safety issues related to pre-construction planning and project development. Additionally, you'll develop timely project-based health and safety risk profiles to guide risk-based inspections and other assurance activities. Your responsibilities also include ensuring that Designers and Principal Contractors comply with the requirements under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015, providing assurance to the Client organisations. Other responsibilities of this role also include:

 

  • Advise as a subject matter expert in constructability, maintainability, and operability reviews.
  • Conduct inspections, accident investigations, and maintain records and reports.
  • Coordinate and compile information for scheduled H&S reports, identify trends, and recommend actions.
  • Audit construction activities to ensure adherence to the construction phase plan.
  • Interpret and apply the H&S management system, providing relevant training, briefings, and information.
  • Engage in regular behavioural safety conversations with construction contractors.
  • Proactively create and implement programs supporting zero tolerance for HSE issues.
  • Increase awareness of all HSE matters.
  • Collaborate with peers in other disciplines to create coherent and integrated policies and systems.
  • Be an effective team member within a group of safety, health, and environmental professionals.

To excel in this role, you’ll need excellent communication skills to build strong relationships within EDF and the construction industry. You should be results-focused with a team-oriented approach, skilled at analysing detailed information to identify risks quickly, and adept at conveying complex concepts clearly using various media. Other skills and experience required for this role also include:

 

  • Adept at engaging others with technical issues, sparking their interest and enthusiasm.
  • Skilled in simplifying complex knowledge and building skills in others, with a practical approach to addressing technical challenges.
  • Strong understanding of large organizational and site operations.
  • Proven ability to establish a vision and implement effective strategies to achieve it.
  • Deep knowledge of national and international HSE standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of CDM Regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving outstanding safety results on major engineering and construction projects.
  • Extensive HSE experience within large project environments.
  • Experienced in coordinating between contractors to resolve health and safety interface issues in complex, high-risk operations.
  • NEBOSH HSE Diploma or Certificate (or equivalent).
