Fire Safety Advisor
The MEH Alliance - Altrad Babcock

Accountabilities:
• The Fire Safety Advisor is part of a team of specialist fire safety and compliance professionals reporting to the MEH Fire Safety.
• The position holder will ensure the Emergency Preparedness, and Fire Health and Safety Standards of the HPC project are consistently met while championing the HPC Way including its pillars in all activities undertaken. They will play a key role in the site integrated EP/Fire team while managing Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness arrangements for the MEH.
• An important part of this role is to support the Principal Contractor at regulatory interventions, acting as Subject Matter Expert on behalf of the MEH. They will act as the key contact to all stakeholders for Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness, including Principal Contractor, Principal Designer and Tier 1 Contractors for MEHA scope while providing technical support to Construction Teams for Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness
• The post holder will also support and promote the development of a positive Fire safety culture amongst a wide array of Contractors and stakeholders, support the development and implementation of fire safety systems and policies, performing audits and inspections, undertaking fire risk assessments, report on fire safety maters to relevant personnel and committees, supporting the on-site Fire & Rescue Team with the provision of risk information and support the continual improvement of Fire safety arrangements and systems on the construction site.
• The role holder will assist the Fire safety lead regarding the Fire Safety Arrangements for the MEH, including writing and owning Fire Risk Assessments and ensuring compliance with Fire Safety procedures. They will assist the Emergency Preparedness team, owning the Emergency Exercise programme, learning from events/exercises and providing oversight of competence and allocation for Emergency Roles
• They will maintain EP/Fire & Rescue standards and champion Health and Safety. They will support locally, at platform level, champion relevant communities of best practice
• To undertake Fire Safety Assurance Audits, Inspections and other monitoring activities of both controlled areas and all site contractors to ensure compliance with site Fire Safety Standards and UK legislation.
• To carry out suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments.
• Review Fire Risk Assessments carried out by others within the fire safety team.
• Review DSEAR risk assessments carried out by other organisations concerned with the project.
Key Deliverables:
• The role holder will support the HPC Way, ensuring the Site work effectively and works to one Culture, manage and own Emergency Exercises to support MEH Exercise Programme
• They will write and own Emergency Preparedness, write reports and identify key learning from Exercises. They will write and own Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Safety Procedures.
• The role holder will provide SME advice on Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Demonstrates Positivity through always striving for solutions, demonstrates Respect through valuing other points of view, demonstrates Clarity through sharing
information simply and concisely, observe and record ‘At Risk’ & ‘Reduce Risk’ behaviours. They must demonstrate Humility through sharing success as a team and demonstrates Solidarity through adopting a “One Team” MEH approach, ensuring and committing to the "HPC Way
Minimum Qualifications/ Experience
(as per MEH matrix)
• NEBOSH Fire and Construction Certificates.
• Technician Membership of professional body (IOSH or IFE etc)
• Willing to work toward full membership of suitable professional bodies.
• Continuous professional development record.
• Producing Fire Risk Assessments in the construction or other dynamic environment.
• Preparation of emergency plans, conducting fire drills etc.
• Construction or emergency services rescue background with a minimum 3 years’ experience.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain EP/Fire procedures and expectations to a range of people
• Thorough knowledge of the Fire Safety Regulations and how to apply in a complex construction environment
Additional Qualifications/ Experience:
• Suitable site experience in a similar role.
• Willing to undertake Level 3 Award in Education & Training / PTLLS or equivalent if required
• Willing to undergo further professional development
• An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail
