The MEH Emergency Preparedness and Fire Safety Team manages Emergency Preparedness and Fire Safety for the Construction Site and audits and assures Emergency Preparedness and Fire Safety standards are met and maintained throughout the project. The team work closely with the MEH construction and delivery teams as well as other site contractors. 

 

The Fire Risk Assessor is part of a team of specialist Emergency planning & fire safety and compliance professionals reporting to the MEH Fire Safety & EP Manager. 

 

The main purpose of the job will be to provide fire risk assessments at the HPC construction site

  • Report writing and Building relationships with the client
  • Responding to ad-hoc fire related queries
  • Undertaking other fire safety related works such as liaising with the Internal Regulator and the Office for Nuclear Regulations 
  • Undertaking other administration duties as dictated by the needs of the organisation
  • Achieving key performance indicators (mainly Health and Safety KPI;s)
  • Other duties as dictated by the needs of the organisation, including advice and guidance on fire safety matters to ensure relevant standards are set and assure the maintenance of these standards across the project.
  • The post holder will also support and promote the development of a positive Emergency Preparedness & Fire safety culture amongst a wide array of Contractors and stakeholders, support the development and implementation of Emergency Preparedness systems and policies, performing audits and inspections, reports on Emergency Planning matters to relevant personnel and committees, supporting the on-site Fire & Rescue Team with the provision of risk information and support the continual improvement of Fire safety and emergency arrangements and systems on the construction site. 
  • They will maintain EP/Fire & Rescue standards and champion Health and Safety.  They will support locally, at platform level, champion relevant communities of best practice
  • To provide Fire Risk Assessments to PAS79 guidelines.
  • Support the development of fire safety/emergency planning arrangements (both general and process related) and procedures that meet legislative requirements and follow best practice.
  • As part of the process of ensuring legal compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • To provide Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness advice to MEH Managers, Leads and construction teams, to develop building fire safety/ Emergency Preparedness strategies. 
  • To undertake Fire Safety Assurance Audits, Inspections and other monitoring activities of both MEH controlled areas and contractors to ensure compliance with site Fire Safety Standards/ Emergency Preparedness and UK legislation.
  • Review Fire Risk Assessments carried out by others within the fire safety team. 
  • Review DSEAR risk assessments carried out by other organisations concerned with the project.
  • To act as an advisor to Health and Safety Groups on matters relating to general fire safety, process fire safety and in relation to explosive atmospheres, Emergency Preparedness and to provide such reports as are required. 
  • Support with the collation and reporting of incident data.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of matters relevant to the post (including best sector practices and regulations) by means of literature searches, contacts with professional bodies, attending relevant meetings, courses, and conferences.
  • This position will be responsible for preparing Fire Risk Assessments but will also be required to support the wider team and other generic areas of site. The role will be required to be self-motivated and autonomous, utilising their own initiative and knowledge to give dynamic advice and guidance on fire safety and Emergency Preparedness related matters.
  • This position will work closely with other members of the EP/Fire Safety Team as well as the wider Emergency Preparedness & Response Teams to maintain adequate fire safety standards across the HPC project.

 

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of undertaking fire safety risk assessments, fire safety audits and the determination of compliance within the commercial and construction sectors.
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate (or similar Emergency Preparedness, fire safety qualifications).
  • Experience of successfully developing and implementing fire safety plans, policies and procedures.
  • Continuous professional development record.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills to explain EP/Fire procedures and expectations to a range of people 
  • Thorough knowledge of Fire Safety Regulations and how to apply in a complex construction environment

 

Experience:

  • Experience of completing fire risk assessment at varying venue types 
  • Good understanding of the relevant fire safety legislation and British standards 
  • Report writing Experience 
  • Work without direct supervision and able to develop own skill
  • Suitable site experience in a similar role.
  • Willing to undergo further professional development
  • An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail
