Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.
All roles on the project require key behaviours which support the Zero Harm objective, a questioning attitude, and drive to uphold the standards of safety and quality required by this prestigious project. A committed strong work ethic is essential at all levels.
All candidates are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and experience where possible directly related to the criteria required for the role. It is acknowledged that previous Nuclear based experience will not always be possible, as such supporting with project research and how individual skills may be transferable will be important.
There are opportunities to put together strategic people plans within the nuclear sector, work on wider company people projects, deliver an excellent first class service to employees and ensure the administration and processes that engulf working life are implemented effectively and fairly.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Compliance & Monitoring
• Ensure all construction activities comply with Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), ISO14001, UK environmental legislation, and site-specific controls.
• Conduct frequent (approx. 66% field-based) site walkovers to identify risks, monitor performance, and raise corrective actions.
• Support audits, investigations, and incident reporting, including recommending improvements and leading follow-up actions.
Permit, Waste & Hazardous Material Management
• Manage and monitor compliance with environmental permits and review permits within RAMS for environmental impacts.
• Oversee the safe management, storage, and handling of chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with COSHH.
• Review and advise on materials management, ensuring appropriate reuse and disposal aligned with regulatory obligations.
Advisory & Technical Support
• Provide specialist advice to contractors on environmental best practices, sustainability, and pollution prevention (BAT principles).
• Support the review of RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements) to ensure environmental risks are adequately addressed.
Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate environmental records, inspection findings.
• Prepare environmental reports, inputs for tenders, and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development and review of Environmental Management Plans and emergency response procedures.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Build strong working relationships with contractors and internal project partners.
• Represent the environmental discipline during inspections, audits, and regulatory engagements.
Support to Work Packages
• Assist in the delivery and coordination of small environmental work packages.
• Influence planning and design decisions across the site to promote environmental sustainability.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
• Level 3 Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
• Large project / Highly regulated environment experience.
• Able to obtain required security clearance
Desirable qualifications and Experience:
Training or certificates in:
• ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems
• COSHH awareness
• Environmental Permitting (EPR)
• Waste Management
• Spill Response / Pollution Prevention
• Fire Safety or Emergency Preparedness (desirable)
• Membership of IEMA (Graduate, Practitioner, or working towards).
