Opportunity for an Electrical Chargehand working with Dalkia on the Hinkley Point C Project,


Dalkia is seeking an experienced Site Chargehand to lead and manage our Construction Technicians, Craftsman and labourers within our Construction Project site teams (including sub-contractors) in solving complex construction challenges through knowledge, skills, and use of technology and allow us to grow our unique culture as we grow the business. 


You’ll be an integral part of the Construction Project team, so you’ll need to understand every aspect of the business and act as a leader regarding construction logistics and installation. You will be supporting our technicians and craftsman through an exciting time of growth for Dalkia, hence your ability to demonstrate your personal and functional credibility and to build effective working relationships will be key. 


Key Deliverables : 


To manage and lead installation teams of technicians and other skilled labour in the efficient construction of an Dalkia construction project through preconstruction, construction, commissioning phases through to handover and close out, and in so doing meet the Company’s objectives in relation to efficiency, quality, service, profitability and customer satisfaction.


Within each phase the Construction site supervisor has the following particular responsibilities:


To manage and lead installation teams of technicians and other skilled labour in the efficient construction of an Dalkia construction project through preconstruction, construction, commissioning phases through to handover and close out, and in so doing meet the Company’s objectives in relation to efficiency, quality, service, profitability and customer satisfaction.


Within each phase the Construction site supervisor has the following particular responsibilities:


Tender/Feasibility/Award and Validation: for this phase: to read the contract and proposed subcontracts to confirm customer and Dalkia requirements and identify any initial difficulties or questions that need to be raised.


Design, Engineering and Procurement:  

 

  • Study drawings and project specification, ensuring understanding of technical, administrative and contractual requirements.     
  • Maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders ensuring scope of work for package is fully understood.  
  • Attend meetings ensuring an effective handover of project to Construction Team.  
  • Develop and monitor risk assessments and method statements ensuring “best working practice” approach is used.   
  • Support Construction Manager in controlling site plant and material schedules ensuring economic use of resources and reduction in waste and deliveries are received in good condition.


Construction:  

 

  • Supervise health and safety/welfare on site, ensuring implementation of HSE plan and that all regulatory/legal standards/internal policies are adhered to; including Toolbox Talks; ensuring colleagues “Come Home Safe”.  
  • Manage and monitor site so that conditions are safe, tidy, and secure and create a favourable image of project and company.  
  • Supervise quality and productivity standards with Site Team/sub-contractors working with Project Manager to ensure all project milestones are met and are recorded.   
  • Manage and monitor operatives and other persons to make best use of their technical expertise, abilities, talent and skill, providing development opportunities where relevant.  
  • Assess labour levels and be able to prepare forecasts and reporting for contract period; ensuring that Operatives timesheets are correctly recorded and processed.  
  • Ensure that operatives are aware and adhere to project specification, client and productivity requirements and that individual performance is reviewed and monitored.   
  • Support adherence to Site Establishment Schedule ensuring that all contractual requirements are met, and that project installation meets project specification.   
  • Support Engineering/Commercial Team with 
    • (a) identification and recording of variations 
    • (b) details required for monthly payment applications 
    • (c) any disruptions/delays affecting progress.  
  • Be proactive in leading/ attending regular review meetings with Client/Project Team ensuring that requirements are on track, questions are answered and that records/systems are updated.  
  • Pilot, adapt and embrace current and new advancements in technology enhancing methods of work.  
  • Challenge status-quo to ensure value is added at every stage; lessons learned are identified and discussed.  
  • Share innovation, best practice and look for ways to improve “inch by inch”.


Commissioning:  

 

  • Support implementation of Commissioning Plan and Programme to comply with project/client requirements. 
  • Supervise performance testing of equipment and witnessing of commissioning works is completed, ensuring a smooth and compliant commissioning process.  
  • Monitor snagging with a view to completing commissioning and handover simultaneously.


Close out:   

 

  • Supervise satisfactory removal of plant and equipment.   
  • Assist Project Team with details for final documentation/systems hand-over and O&M Manuals as required.   
  • Support aftercare training client plan as requested by Project Management Team


Other: 

 

  • Engage in CPD activities and actively contribute to the development and effectiveness of Engineering Team.  
  • Follow company’s policies and procedures and take all necessary actions to ensure health, safety and welfare.

Qualifications : 


ESSENTIAL 

 

  • Construction Building Services Craft qualification through Craft Apprenticeship with relevant experience at Level 3 Technician and equivalent. 
  • 18th Edition IEE Regs and Electrical Installations BS7671)
  • Mechanical – Public Health and/or HVAC knowledge and skills
  • Relevant health and safety qualifications: CITB SSSTS, First Aid at work, MEWP and PASMA 
  • First line management qualification at level 3
  • 5 GCSE’s (A – C Grade) including English & Maths (or equivalent)
  • MS Office
  • CSCS Card (Gold Construction Supervisor)
  • Full driving licence


DESIRABLE

 

  • Level 4 HNC in Construction Site Management
  • Construction site information systems usage


Experience : 

 

  • Ideally 5+ years of Construction site experience in an MEP installation type project
  • Apprenticeship experience 4 years on a construction site Experienced in Business Information systems deployment, administration and management.
  • Experience should include experience in performance management of construction teams and labour in the site environment
