Opportunity for a Distribution Manager working for Wilson James on the Hinkley Point C Project,


Summary of role


This role is responsible for the efficient day – day operation of the HPC Distribution Compound known as IDP A, this area of site is the logistics node allocated to receive permanent materials from the offsite Logistics partner for distribution to various locations around the construction site. 
The Distribution Manager will have responsibility for the efficient operation required to support the logistics 
throughput as defined by the construction schedule, managing the team that will be responsible for material and 
material movement within the compound. They will also oversee the onward movement of material to its final 
delivery point, utilising a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment ensuring agreed KPI’s are measured and met and 
SOP’s are regularly reviewed. The role will see the successful candidate working alongside the Fleet Compliance 
Manager to improve efficiency, safety and compliance.


Main responsibilities


    o Managing the Traffic Management for IDP A including reviewing and updating TMP’s where needed.
    o Managing the dwell time of permanent materials in the compound against agreed turnaround times.
    o Managing vehicle throughput against the plan.
    o Managing onward material movement from IDP A to final delivery points. 
    o Ensuring the IDP A team is being put to work and supervised correctly.
    o Ensuring daily tasks are gathered efficiently, clearly communicated and completed safely.
    o Ensuring non-working Supervision (Black Hats) are trained correctly, monitored, and briefed regularly.
    o Ensure investigations are implemented and reports are compiled following all incidents and accidents.
    o Facilitate and deliver Toolbox Talks and safety stand downs where appropriate.
    o Ensure Daily Briefings and reporting are carried out correctly.
    o Develop and maintain the KPI reporting procedure for the Distribution Lead.
    o Ensure the IDP A team have correct and sufficient equipment to support works.
    o Work with the Plant and Fleet Compliance Manager to ensure the Calibration and Lifting Equipment 
processes are strictly followed.
    o Ensure that IDP A housekeeping is maintained to a high standard.
    o Reviewing and Implementing Standard Operational Procedures.
    o Organisational structure, resource allocation and recruitment.
    o HR/ IR compliance and resolutions.
    o Identifying best for project operational innovation.
    o HSE compliance.


Other duties and responsibilities 


    o Point of contact for pay/ HR/ IR issues.
    o Ensure training records are reviewed regularly.
    o Monitoring absence and instigating review process.
    o Responsible for initiating performance reviews or disciplinary action.
    o Responsible for maintaining development plans and identifying training requirements.

Required Knowledge & Experience


Essential


    • Management of a multi-skilled team – preferably in the construction sector.
    • Operational involvement with stores management. 
    • Evidence of delivering strategic or operational planning.


Health & Safety 


Required Knowledge & Experience 


    • Demonstrate the ability to create SOP’s Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
    • Demonstrate excellent communication skills written & verbal.
    • Demonstrate excellent competence with IT – specifically MS Office package.
    • Demonstrate the ability to deliver presentations.
    • Ability to demonstrate the use of Stores or Asset management systems.


Desirable


    • Construction Logistics Supervision or Management.
    • HR experience (disciplinary, investigations absence management, grievance, performance 
management).
    • Experience using time and attendance systems.
    • H&S Management Software reporting systems.
    • Appointed Person qualification– Lifting Plans and Schedules.


Essential 


    • CITB HSE Test (Manager & Professional standard) – must be obtained before start date.
    • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) – must be obtained within the first 3 months of 
employment.

 
Desirable


    • Driving Licence.
    • CSCS Black Card.
    • Level 6 or above NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management.
    • IOSH Managing Safely.
    • Lifting Appointed Person (A61).
    • CPCS Card Holder (Blue Competent Operator).
