NRL Solutions (Arabelle Solutions)
Hinkley Point C

Overall Target of the Position

Provide dedicated non-working leadership and operational control of the Centralised Fire Watch function across the UK3011 scope, initially within HM1. Ensure safe, competent and efficient deployment of fire watching resources across multiple contractors and hot work locations, maintaining compliance with Principal Contractor requirements and effective fire prevention and emergency response arrangements.

Job Assignments, Measurements & Sphere of Influence

Tasks & Responsibilities

Lead the centralised Fire Watch organisation as the accountable operational supervisor for deployment, coordination and assurance. This is a non-working supervisory role; routine fire watching is not a primary duty.

Leadership, planning and resource management

o    Direct and coordinate Fire Watch Blue Hats and Fire Watchers from Arabelle Solutions and participating Tier 2 contractors.
o    Attend the Plan of the Week (PLOW) and Plan of the Day (PLOD) meetings to forecast demand, confirm workfaces and establish daily deployment plans.
o    Maintain sufficient coverage and resilience for breaks, sickness, absence, shift changes and changing construction priorities.
o    Serve as the primary operational interface with Construction, Permit Office, EHS, Fire Safety and contractor management; incorporate hot works status into established shift handovers.

Operational control and fire prevention

o    Assess simultaneous hot work demand and allocate resources based on approved work arrangements, hazards, access, supervision and response capability.
o    Verify that flexible coverage of adjacent workfaces is justified by the point of work risk assessment (POWRA), with effective monitoring and response arrangements (approximately 10 metres or 15 seconds walking time where applicable).
o    Verify appropriate workface supervision, communication, access, firefighting equipment and emergency escalation arrangements.
o    Stop or require reassessment of arrangements when work scope, combustibles, access, visibility or surveillance conditions change, or safe monitoring cannot be assured.

Compliance, competence and assurance

o    Verify compliance with the approved Centralised Fire Watch Management Plan, applicable Principal Contractor fire safety and hot work requirements, permits and Fire Watcher Passport Scheme.
o    Carry out field assurance checks covering combustible controls, fire sterile areas, openings and penetrations, fire watch provision and required post-hot-work cooldown monitoring.
o    Confirm Fire Watchers are trained, authorised and competent; coach Blue Hats, support assessments and identify training needs.
o    Record non-compliances, emerging trends and corrective actions, escalating unresolved risks appropriately.

Emergency preparedness and performance

o    Act as escalation point for concerns, ensure effective emergency communications and support response, incident reviews and lessons learned.
o    Monitor resource utilisation, coverage, training, compliance and deployment effectiveness; provide periodic performance updates and improvement recommendations.
o    Support safe construction delivery without compromising required fire prevention and response outcomes.

Key Performance Indicators

o    Completion and effectiveness of planned Fire Watch coverage, including shift handover and contingency arrangements.
o    Compliance findings, overdue corrective actions and repeat non-conformances.
o    Competence and Fire Watcher Passport currency, training completion and supervision effectiveness.
o    Fire Watch utilisation, unfulfilled demand, deployment efficiency and avoidable hot work disruption.
o    Fire-related incidents, near misses and implementation of lessons learned.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
