Business Continuity Lead

The Business Continuity Lead is responsible for establishing, embedding, and continuously improving the project's Business Continuity Management (BCM) framework. This role ensures critical functions, safety obligations, 
and operational activities remain resilient during disruptive events and recover swiftly within target objectives. 
Collaborating across all project functions, the Lead identifies resilience risks, coordinates recovery strategies, and drives compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, contractual commitments, and industry standards. 
The position requires proven expertise in business continuity, crisis management, and emergency preparedness, coupled with strong stakeholder engagement and leadership capabilities. 


Pay: £80,000+ per year (hourly paid), depending on experience 


Key Responsibilities


Business Continuity Management 


● Analysis: Conduct Business Impact Analyses (BIA) to identify critical processes, dependencies, and recovery requirements. 
● Objective Setting: Define and maintain Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs), Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs), and Minimum Business Continuity Objectives (MBCOs). 
● Framework Development: Create and maintain comprehensive continuity policies, standards, and BCPs for both departmental and site levels. 
● Alignment: Ensure all continuity plans remain aligned with strategic project priorities and evolving operational risks. 


Risk and Resilience 


● Integration: Collaborate with security, emergency preparedness, and H&S teams to maintain an integrated approach to resilience. 
● Supply Chain: Assess and monitor the business continuity capabilities of critical suppliers and service providers. 
● Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify, assess, and treat business continuity-related risks. 


Incident Response and Recovery 


● Crisis Management: Lead continuity response efforts during incidents and maintain effective incident response arrangements. 
● Leadership Support: Act as the primary point of contact for continuity matters, providing expert support to leadership and incident management teams. 


Assurance, Testing and Continuous Improvement 


● Validation: Design and execute testing, simulations, and tabletop exercises to validate continuity arrangements. 
● Continuous Improvement: Coordinate post-incident reviews, capture lessons learned, and drive actionable improvements. 
● Reporting: Monitor BCM maturity and performance metrics, providing regular assurance reports to senior management. 


Awareness and Training 


● Education: Develop and deliver BCM training and awareness programs to embed resilience across the project. 
● Expert Guidance: Act as a subject matter expert, advising project leaders on embedding continuity into strategic decision-making. 


Governance and Compliance 


● Standards & Compliance: Ensure ongoing alignment with ISO 22301 and all relevant regulatory, legal, and contractual obligations. 
● Audit Support: Manage and support internal/external audits, certifications, and governance reporting for BCM activities.

● Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and cross-functional leadership skills. 
● Exceptional written, verbal, and crisis communication capabilities.

● Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail. 
● Strong program and project management capabilities, capable of balancing multiple priorities. 
● Decisive, calm, and effective leadership under high-pressure scenarios. 


Qualifications & Experience


Educational Requirements/Qualifications 


● Professional certification in Business Continuity, Risk, Security, or Resilience (e.g., CBCI, MBCI, ISO 22301, or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor). 


Essential Experience 


● Minimum of 5 years of experience in Business Continuity Management, Operational Resilience, Risk Management, Corporate Security, or a related discipline. 
● Proven track record in developing, implementing, and embedding comprehensive Business Continuity Management frameworks and programmes. 
● Demonstrated experience conducting Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and establishing key recovery objectives and strategies (RTOs/RPOs/MBCOs). 
● Hands-on experience creating, maintaining, and testing robust Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) across business units. 
● Strong background supporting or leading ISO 22301 alignment, audit readiness, certification, and ongoing compliance. 
● Experience designing and facilitating continuity exercises, simulations, and crisis management testing programs. 


Desirable

 
● Experience working within highly regulated, high-risk, or critical national infrastructure (CNI) environments. 
● Experience supporting major capital projects, large-scale infrastructure programmes, or complex multi-site operations.
