Assistant Project Manager

Job description

Ready to shape a project that keeps one of the UK’s most important power stations running safely and reliably? As an Assistant Project Manager supporting the Emergency Diesel Generators at Hinkley Point C, you’ll help deliver essential systems that protect the station’s operation – all while developing your own path, because at EDF, Success is Personal.

The Opportunity

As an Assistant Project Manager for the Emergency Diesel Generators at Hinkley Point C, you’ll support a contract central to the safe, reliable operation of the station. You’ll work with construction, engineering and supplier teams to help advance one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects and support the transition towards An Electric Britain.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role is primarily based on site at #HinkleyPointC for at least four days each week. You’ll use the dedicated Park and Ride service to access the site, helping you stay connected to the work as it progresses.

With installation and commissioning activities continuing over several years, you’ll grow your project management capability while collaborating with specialist engineering teams. You’ll be part of a high-profile contract that shapes the project timeline, gaining experience across design, manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Who You Are

We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager who brings curiosity, organisation and a passion for delivering complex engineering work. Are you experienced in…

  • Supporting project delivery across office and site-based activities
  • Applying mechanical or electrical engineering knowledge in practical environments
  • Working within construction or operating industrial facilities
  • Coordinating with contractors, suppliers and multi-disciplinary teams

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting installation, construction and commissioning activities for the EDG systems
  • Working with suppliers, internal construction teams and the Responsible Designer
  • Monitoring safe working practices within your contract scope
  • Contributing to the management of a high-value contract throughout its lifecycle
  • Coordinating site activity and progress across a multi-disciplinary project team

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

Join us and find your success at EDF!

For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
